Turns out the demise of Apple's products were greatly exaggerated...

BBC News wrote:Apple: iPhone 7 helps US giant return to growth

Apple has reported its highest quarterly revenue, as the iPhone 7 helped it return to a growth in sales in the final three months of 2016.

In its first full quarter since the iPhone 7's release, Apple reported net sales of $78.4bn (£62.3bn), up 3% on the same period a year ago.

Chief executive Tim Cook said Apple had sold "more iPhones than ever before".

It had also set new records for revenues from its Mac, Apple Watch and services divisions, he said.[

iPhone recovery

"We're thrilled to report that our holiday quarter results generated Apple's highest quarterly revenue ever, and broke multiple records along the way," Mr Cook said.

Apple had suffered three quarters in a row of falling revenue as intensifying competition, particularly from Chinese rivals, hit sales of its flagship iPhone.

In April, the firm reported its first fall in quarterly revenue since 2003, hurt by slowing sales in China.

A continued slowdown in iPhone sales led to Apple then reporting a drop in annual revenue in October, the first such fall in 15 years.

Apple shares rose 3% in after-hours trading following signs of a recovery in the latest results.

The firm said it had sold 78.3m iPhones in the three months to 31 December, up from 74.8m a year before.

It reported revenue of $54.3bn from iPhone sales, plus $7.2bn from the Mac, $5.5bn from the iPad, $7.1bn from services and $4.0bn from other products, including the Apple Watch.

However, Apple warned that iPhone sales would miss analysts' expectations in the current quarter.

It suggested that customers were holding back on phone upgrades in anticipation of the launch of the tenth anniversary iPhone later this year.

Big uptake of Android users swapping over too apparently - the highest ever.

If this keeps up I can see a number of manufacturers pulling out of the mobile market.

The internet: they've removed USB ports and the headphone jack!
The masses: couldn't give a strawberry float.

The only negative in the latest figures is that sales of the iPad are down around 20%.

I think it times where people have less money they want a device that will last at the very least he contract term and Android just does punt seem to do it very well so they see iPhones as a better use of money as it will stay alive past the contract end. Plus as they hold value better you some resale at the end too.

I'm quite likely to go iOS in my next phone part ply for that reason and partly that Android hasn't really moved forward in years and only developments are in different oems adding their own bits which is stupid.

After having an iPad I have seen how well put together iOS is in comparison and really like that.i used to want to rom phones etc. I can't be arsed now and I think general appetite for that has fallen away.

While I enjoy my ipad, and unhappy with how little time even Google now guarantees updates for their phones, I still wouldn't pay iPhone prices for a phone. £250 is probably the max I'd go, but £200 ideally.

My phone is out of contract in 6 months so I've been looking into it all.

iPhones ooose about 50% of value over 2 years, or at least that's what it looks like where as most android phones loose that is 6 - 12 months. So if you buy an iPhone at £800 you'll get a chunk back to use on the next one making that one less of a hit.

The first one is a bit hit but it gets easier, sadly decent phones that won't have storage issues or be gooseberry fool just cost gooseberry fool loads now.

Not surprised at that. The mass faux-outrage over the headphone jack removal was crazy.

Does anyone use the Podcasts app regularly? I've got an iPhone from work, and have started to use it to listen to podcasts in the car. The app is really shitty though, and one of the problems is the following:

Image

See that bar near the bottom with 'The Second Touch' on it? This seems to be constantly there. Even if I delete the podcast it relates to, it's still there. How do I get rid of this thing without starting a new podcast?

I recommend using Overcast instead of the official Apple podcast app. It's free and one of the best podcast apps.

Is anyone here satisfied with the quality of the iPhone 7 camera? I look at my photos and they just don't seem that great, especially when you zoom in a little you can see them get blurry/grainy. Is this normal? I read a lot of people saying they have similar issues to some extent. I just expected better from a phone this expensive. I hear taking photos in natural lighting is best, but they still lack that sharp/crispness you'd expect.

You never want to zoom in if you want your photos to remain sharp. Low light conditions are pretty shabby, but nice and clear in day light on my 6s.

Did everyone else get a request to log in to your Apple ID when updating to 10.3.1?

That seemed a bit weird, especially as I skipped it and it appears to be signed in anyway? :?

Is there a way to add music to an iPod Touch without a computer? Can I upload my music somewhere and download it via Wi-Fi?

How would you upload it if not with a computer?

Google play music is an option, you can upload up to 10,000 songs for free and either stream or easily choose which ones to store on your device, and it's also compatible with PC and android and has a browser interface so it's basically accessible on any device.

No, well ish no.

If you want your current stuff as is then no, if you want to go via a streaming services like Google Music, Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer etc. then yes.

I think you can do that if you turn on iCloud Music Library.

What does it mean if "delivered" doesn't appear at the bottom of an iMessage? It's the first time I've not had it (and it's not showing as undelivered either).
