It’s weird... as an example, when I access Eurogamer the page appears sans adverts and with only a bit of the news items visible... and it kinda freezes. It has only happened since I the updated iOS software. Super annoying :x .

Edit: Just tried clearing all web data but that hasn’t resolved it.

I just tried those websites and loaded them with ads successfully.
Have you done the usual reboot? Also the current version is iOS11.0.1. Have you done that?

Thanks for testing it out, man.

But... is still isn't working on my iPad. I can look at, say, the BBC news site, Amazon and GRcade with no probs. But if I view, say, Eurogamer or Nintendo Life, it loads part of the page and then locks up. It's really weird and I don't really know what to do next.

Try downloading an Adblocker from the AppStore. See if that makes a difference.

Great news - a new iOS update, v11.0.2, released earlier and that seems to have resolved 95% of the browser problems! The update notes didn’t mention anything about browser issues but they must have corrected something. I can now view Eurogamer, Push Square and Nintendo Life without difficulty. Oddly, I still can’t access the Final Fantasy XIV Lodestone site... but most other things seem okay.

Thanks for helping. massimo!

Edit: The old update seemed to have impacted the screen orientation capability but that is now back to normal, too.

I’m liking my 8 and iOS 11 but one issue I’m having is that my phone seems to periodically switch WiFi on all by itself. Is anyone else getting that?

I’ve got a 7 and I always have the WiFi on, but I have noticed since iOS11 that it automatically switches on Bluetooth every so often.

If you turnoff wifi and bluetooth only by the shortcut menu you arn't actually turning them off. They've added a cheeky thing where it still runs in the background so make sure to turn them off in 'Settings' if you don't want them on.

I think they've done it this way so Wi-Fi and Bluetooth stay on for stuff like Airdrop but you can still disconnect from networks.

Yeah I think this came from how people use those quick options in control centre. I’d assume people usually turn WiFi off in control centre because they want to disconnect from a network, but people will likely forget to turn it back on and chew through their monthly allowance.
So that’s what the bahaviour now appears to be.
If you want to turn off WiFi/Bluetooth, do it in settings instead. See if that makes a difference.

Thanks guys. I just Googled this and you’re absolutely right, Mafro; turning WiFi and Bluetooth off from the control centre simply kills your connection to whatever networks you’re connected to at the time.

Fine but I find going to the settings menu a chore. It feels like you should only have to go there when you absolutely need to look ‘under the hood’. I think they should include an option in the hard press menu to decide between permanent or temporary switch offs/ons in the control centre.

A couple of other moans about iOS 11:
1. The notifications menu looks way to similar to the lock screen. This could easily trick someone into thinking their phone is locked when it isn’t.
2. You should be able to reorder the widgets in the control centre. On mine the record screen button is in the bottom right hand corner, just where I want the camera button to be!

Edit - you can switch WiFi and Blutetooth off properly using Siri (i.e. when you’re in private :dread:).

The the lock screen and the notification centre are exactly the same thing now. On the lock screen you can even swipe up to see previous notifications which you could only previously do from the notification centre.

Except that the lock screen is locked. The two should be easily distinguishable.

Which is not very conspicuous! IMO the lock screen and notification screen should look very different..

Go to settings > control centre > customise controls.

Next to the widgets you have added you will see 3 lines. Press down on there and move them to the order you want them.

Ok....so I have a few long flights and a long stay in the falkland islands ahead of me after christmas.

I was considering buying an Ipad..and had a look at the prices.

A normal one is 340 and a 'pro' is more than double of that?

How much better can it possibly be? I'd be getting a wi-fi only one and mainly just want it as a lightweight computer and netflix watching device. A very good battery life is essential for long flight but jeez...it seems a lot more?

Can anyone offer any feedback, on the two devices and tell me why one is so much more than the other? Would it just be worth buying the android equivalent?

The Pro one is more aimed towards content creation rather than consumption. If by "using it as a lightweight computer" you mean just email and web browsing then go for the regular one. If you intend to edit video and play intense 3D games, go for the Pro.

Has anyone got a good video guide for using Mac OS?

Picked up a MacBook Pro and everything seems pretty intuitive so far but I'm guessing there will be some handy shortcuts worth knowing.
