Thanks guys.

I was definitely happier with it than the first two. Just seems a bit more polished now, and the audio quality being better is a massive help.

Now that I'm settling into a style and routine for the show, does anyone have any suggestions for games to look at?

I've already got an idea of what I'm doing for the next few weeks, but I'm always interested in playing something I've never tried before.

I've only watched the latest video  but I have to say that you've done some great work, Devlin! You presented the game in such a great way that I'm actually very keen to give Elevator Action Returns a go myself. I'll have to 'look into it' later tonight :shifty:

I like how clearly we can hear you but it does tend to get a bit too quiet when you pause. It might be worth having the game audio playing very faintly so that it just fills the silences, without muting your words when you're speaking. Other than that, I really enjoyed watching the video and I'm looking forwards to hearing what you have to say about Turtles, as well as catching up on the first two.

Devlin, I really enjoyed the Elevator Action Returns episode - there is a noticeable increase in production quality from the first two! I could understand you far more easily; your speech was clear and well-paced, whilst the recording was excellent.

I was familiar with Elevator Action even though I have not played the game... and your vid has made me want to give Returns a go! Great work and I'm excited to see future shows.

Hi Devlin! Really liked that episode, you've found some right interesting games so far!

Sound's definitely improved from last time, but my one suggestion would be to make everything just a bit louder, maybe an increase in volume of something like 20-30%?

You could probably do it pretty easily in post-processing.

I think what he needs is dynamic range compression (making quit noises louder and loud noises quieter to achieve a more consistent overall level), which I'm happy to do. I'll try to see if there's a quick fix somewhere, I'm sure Audition will actually have something as that's normally used for soundtracks and it's a very common issue in films.

Hey Devlin, really enjoyed these so far - and you've definitely improved based on the comments. Speech is much clearer and the video is a better match for what your saying all the way through. Is that a new mic?

My only comment is (and I may be over sensitive to this kind of thing as my partner is a vocal coach!) just make sure that you make the last words you say in a sentence/section are clear - don't end too soon! Mostly it was fine but I did smile at the end when you said '...if you get a chance to play Elevator Action Returns, I can't recommend it enough.'

Such a tiny thing. Other than that, fantastic!

Loving these. a great series. I wish there was something I could contribute.

Thanks Lime.

It's a different microphone yes. However it's just the microphone on my new phone, run through Adobe Audition filters and stuff to clean it up. But it definitely sounds a lot better than my headset microphone does. :D

I'm concious about the audio more than anything, and I'm trying to make sure I come through clearly, without sounding like I - am - over - pronouncing - each - word - which - would - be - even - worse - I - think.

And thanks to everyone else who's commented on this so far. I'm glad everyone is enjoying them and if it means some people go out and try a new game then I've succeeded.

Your pronunciation and delivery are fine. Your accent gives it a lot of character and I never struggle with it. It was literally the 'leaving the building' effect before you'd quite finished!

I'm sure you've already chosen the next few games but here's a few suggestions anyway.

Knights of the Round
Cadillacs & Dinosaurs
Pop 'n Twinbee (aka Super Bells & Whistles)
Galaxian
Roadblasters
Pang
Metamorphic Force
World Heroes 2

This is a definite improvement, much clearer audio and a much more natural, conversational style, a much better use of video footage too. Having never done anything like this myself I don't know how you're cutting or editing the audio together, but sometimes the pauses between sentences are slightly too long.

I know you're starting out with some older and mostly arcade games, but would you consider newer arcade games of the NAOMI2/Dreamcast era? I think games like Virtua Cop, Outrun, Sega Rally etc. could be interesting ones to do, especially as arcade emulation is coming along really well for footage etc.

Thanks man. I'm very much learning the editing as I go, but I'm already far more confident in how to do these things. Stuff like pauses between the audio is something I'll get the feel for as I go on.

Watch this space. ;)

Thanks for that Ironhide. Not heard of the last two there but I'll check them out. I've got at least one of those in my list of games that I'm considering doing.

Mostly it comes down to what games I'm interested in covering and that have something to talk about. Sometimes it's a game that I really like (As Street Fighter and Elevator Action Returns were) or something I've heard is good and want to try (DoDonpachi). In the case of episode four it's a game that I've got a lot of fond memories of and I want to see what it's like to return to. Episode 5 is a game I'd never even heard of until a few weeks ago, but it's one that's good fun and is a spiritual precursor to a pretty big modern franchise.

Metamorphic Force is a four player scrolling beat 'em up similar to the Konami Simpsons and TMNT games which features characters who can 'morph' into animals (think Bloody Roar) during combat.

Word Heroes 2 is a Neo Geo 1 on 1 fighting game featuring characters loosely based on a variety of historic folk heroes/villains including Joan of Arc, Rasputin and even a Hulk Hogan lookalike.

I enjoyed your latest vid, Devlin! I think you've got the pacing, for me, just right now and it is all slickly produced.

The Turtles arcade game is one that I was unfamiliar with and, man, it looks tough! It was fun to gain a quick overview and hear your thoughts. Great work :-).
