Been meaning to post my impressions on here for ages!

After listening to the album a lot the last few weeks I've decided that I love it. Was a relatively slow grower (not that I thought it was in any way bad upon first listening to it) but I'm very impressed that they've managed to keep up such a high standard over 3 albums; bodes well for the future. Whilst it doesn't have nearly the amount of 'stand-out' tracks that Funeral and Neon Bible had (it is 16 tracks long to be fair), IMO it works much better as an album than both of them; the songs really seem to benefit from being listened to in order. The only dud (kinda) in the mix is, ironically, Wasted Hours, but that's just my opinion.

Personal favourites:
The Suburbs (one of my favourite AF songs)
Ready to Start
City With No Children
Suburban War
Deep Blue

LOVE IT!

Well I've given it a fair old go and I'm still not that impressed. Sprawl 2 is still amazing, and The Suburbs and Sprawl 1 are great. Modern Man, City With No Children, Empty Room, Suburban War and Month of May are all decent but not exceptional and the rest I couldn't care less about. Take Ready To Start: it's not a bad song by any means, it's energetic and quite catchy and has a good melody and fits in the album well and all that kind of stuff, but I just can't get excited about it. Compare and contrast No Cars Go which has about the same "amount" of melody but does so much more with it.

All in all I guess it's a reasonably good listen and sustains itself well for 64 minutes so it's got to be doing something right. But it's looking less and less likely that they'll ever match Funeral.

I've had We Used to Wait stuck in my head for the last few hours. Radio 1 have started spinning it more in the day time which is super.

I'll have to download the album and give it a listen. I loved their last album, but I had strawberry floating dreadful depression then, and I get reminded of it when I listen to it now.

It's weird. Was introduced to the band through Neon Bible and loved it. Finally listened to Funeral few months back and after an initial period of not getting it at all, it's now one of my favourite albums ever. The Suburbs has been a bit like that...it's taken me a while to get it but as a piece it's brilliant. As people have pointed out there arent really any tracks that stand out like Power Out or No Cars Go but the songs flow fantastically.

Same here.

Once I started listening to it, I nearly always end up going through the whole thing and, for an album that totals over 60 minutes in length, that's quite an accolade.

The only songs I am not massively bothered about are Wasted Hours and Deep Blue. Even then, it's more a case of them being ranked the lowest out of all the tracks, rather than me not actually liking them.

Saying that, I didn't really like Neon Bible beforehand, but going back to it after this has made me appreciate it much more.

I've not been keep track of tickets to see Arcade Fire live, but I'm hoping to catch them either this year or next (if that will indeed be possible at all). Was listening to Geoff Lloyd on Absolute Radio today, and he was tipping them to play some of the major festivals this year...

Same, album of the year for me too. Been a while since I listened to an album where I wouldn't even think of skipping any of the tracks.

I prefer it to Neon Bible which I think is the runt of the litter.

The albums grown on me a lot but I do still think it's too long and could stand to lose a few of the weaker songs.

Deep Blue is actually one of my favourites! Like you there isn't a single song on the album I dislike, but I guess I wouldn't choose to listen Sprawl I out of context.

I saw Arcade Fire at the LG Arena last month, and they were even better than they were on the Neon Bible tour. They played No Cars Go right near the start, which rather helped the atmosphere along, and the setlist was a perfect combination of old and new stuff. I think Empty Room was probably my favourite. :)
