Arcade Fire: Just A Reflektor - 29/10/2013

Since it's one of the most anticipated albums of the year and it's out I figured it might be worthy of it's own thread.

I was going to let it pass me by but I'd heard it was more rocky than their previous albums which hooked me in.
I just downloaded it and am listening to it a bit before I go to bed.

Anyone got it, thoughts?

Neon Bible is probably one of my favourite albums of the last 10 years so I'm really looking forward to this. I'm sure it'll...make its way to me...pretty damn soon.

I was looking forward to it, but not as much as hindsight shows me I should have. For me it's better than Funeral and if there's any justice in the world this will be a classic of our time.

What's the consensus on the first two? I much prefer Bible but how is Funeral regarded in comparison to it? Better? Worse?

I'm not a massive fan.

I can appreciate what people find so great about Funeral but I'm not that in love with it.

EDIT: I should point out I do think Funeral is better than Neon Bible by a fair margine

Funeral is regarded as significantly better and now frequently gets near the top of 'Best Album Ever' lists

In contrast, I prefer Funeral. Great songs like Power Out and Rebellion(Lies) are on Funeral.

I saw this in HMV today, most unsatisfying (if that makes sense) album packaging ever. I love Funeral so should probably get this at some point.

Not as good as Funeral. Better than Neon Bible.

Songs have a more pop sound to them. Not so, dramatic and avant-garde as the first two.

Maybe it's because I heard Neon Bible first but I always preferred it to Funeral, although there's no doubting the quality of Power Out and Wake Up.

As an album its great. But for me its missing a couple of 'WOW' songs.

Funeral for me was perfection. The neighbourhood start was great leading into 'Crown of Love' and 'Wake Up' and then the Stand Out song, 'Rebellion(lies)'which blows you away completely. And you think it's all over and BAM, in the back seat comes on, what an end to an album.

Neon Bible...Well what can I say. Intevention, Windowsill, and Antichrist Televion blues are just simply fantastic. but as a whole its weaker than Funeral, but if you listen the whole way through it's one hell of an experience.

This album. Is longer.15/16 songs. And its GREAT. It does miss some stand out WOW songs. But you find yourself humming to things Like Rococo and Suburban War, and although it doesnt have that 'WOW THAT WAS A strawberry floating FANTASTIC SONG' feeling, as a few in the first two albums. It flows very, very well and is a delight to listen to.

That's exactly it. It's their pop record.

I always find I need to listen to albums at least 10 times before I can fully make my mind up on them

Having said that I like what I've heard so far

I prefer Funeral to Neon Bible, mainly because it hangs together much better as an album. I tend to skip the odd song on Neon Bible too. Both have some incredible songs on them though, with No Cars Go being my personal favourite. It makes the original rather frustrating to listen to by comparison mind.

As for The Suburbs, I've listed to it a couple of times since yesterday, and I think it could become my new favourite after a few more runs. It's pretty long, but there's not a single filler track in it, and it flows a lot more naturally than Neon Bible. The tradeoff is that there's nothing much that jumps out and grabs you like Intervention does, and even after two listens I couldn't easily pick out my favourites.

Anyway, it's great. 8-)

Just started listening to this. Love it, I'm using youtube atm, I switched ISP and I need a way of hiding torrents while using them.

I've never bought an Arcade Fire album, or owned one, but I do like a lot of the songs I've heard from them. So maybe I'll buy this at some point.
