It gets better on repeat listens too. It's very different to The Suburbs, which I think I still prefer, but it's pretty great in its own right.

In a way each album is great in their own way all 4 have different sounds and all stand out individually and are a evolution of the Arcade Fire sound original and different and fresh.

Just can't get into this album. Feel like it's lost a big part of what made Arcade Fire sound like Arcade Fire. I don't know. Hopefully it'll go. A few of the tracks from the second side are standouts so far.

Going to do a back to back listen through of Funeral, Neon Bible, Suburbs and Reflektor, close to 4 hours of Arcade Fire goodness.

Don't forget the EP!

I agree that the new album is definitely missing standouts like Intervention, but then I think it hangs together better than Neon Bible as a whole.

Just finished (I'll do the EP another time), other than Reflektor, Joan of Arc and Porno stand out for me on the new album, but yeah I agree the album is more as a whole than as the sum of its parts.

Oh yeah. There's not a track I don't like on Reflektor, but they don't reach out and grab you by the throat like the likes of Intervention. I miss the violins too. :(

I'm glad the band keep mixing things up though. Reflektor is very different to The Suburbs, which was very different to Funeral and Neon Bible. It means that none of their albums stick out as a worse version of something else.

Yeah I agree with this. Only Reflektor immediately hooks you in. There are a few others that I sense will grow on me. The Suburbs got me pretty much straight away, but I think this will take a few listens, and all the way through in one sitting as well, rather than just the odd track here and there.

And Intervention is probably the best song they have ever done. And that's quite an accolade, as I think they have loads of outstanding ones.

I'd probably rank the other three as Funeral > Suburbs > Neon Bible, though often my opinion changes to the one I am currently listening to. For a long time, I thought Suburbs was actually better than Funeral, and only recently changed them around in order.
