Used to be my genre of choice SNES/PS1/PS2-era but I think they're dead to me now. Complete lack of progression.

Unfair. There has definitely been slow progression. It's just easy to miss it, because so little changes from iteration to iteration. But compare Final Fantasy 1 to 12, and there's been huge upheaval.

I was surprised to play Final Fantasy IV on the DS and find myself enjoying it though, because it commits a multitude of things in an RPG that I would normally consider sins, but it's actually very enjoyable.

I don't like JRPGs at all. They have a mechanic that only makes the game worse - going to a separate screen to fight.

Sports games. I really don't see the point. I'm not the most athletic of people, but even I reckon it'd be more fun to take a ball down the park than chase one round a fictional field using players with laughably altered names for copyright's sake. Sport management sims, however, can be awesome fun.

Not a genre per se, but anything at all where you have to "grind" or it have to do something that is not fun, is repetitive, too hard, or need to play a few hours to "get into it".

My spare time to play is so limited, and gaming for me is about unwinding. I want to enjoy what gaming I have - hence I love shooters like GW & SSHD, PixelJunk games, simple arcade adventures like Drakes Fortune, Galaxy, Fifa/PES.

So ..... all JRPG's, MMO's, fiddly games, hard games, long games (10 hours tops) .... are out.

Basically I want instant gratification, half decent looks, fun to play, not to much "to think about".

Ridiculously anal motorsport games. I have no interest in altering the tread in my tires, thank you. I'd rather smash your face against a wall in Burnout.

I know what you mean. During exam times etc, i tend to feel the same. Something i was really surprised about was playing Ninja Gaiden 2 in that kindof frame of mind. On acolyte it's pretty tame and really good fun, looks great.

Basically all RPGs, well all of them that have turned based battles and are not called "Paper Mario....".

I have been meaning to give Final Fantasy 12 a go at some point but I can't be arsed because I don't have anywhere near the time to play it.

Flight Sims - flying a Boeing 747 from Heathrow to Tokyo in real-time is about as appealing as roasting my knackers over a candle-effect lightbulb.

I like Flight Sims, purely for triggering in-flight disasters, and trying to recover and land safely.

I simply get zero enjoyment out of beat 'em ups, which is strange because when I was a teenager I used to play Street Fighter 2 in the arcade for, ooooh, bloomin' ages. Never got on with any others though.
Also, even though for some reason I really want to, I just don't get racing games (except Mario Kart and Burnout).

And as someone who was freaking awesome at R-Type, Gradius etc, back in the day, I really have no truck with shmups. No damn truck at all. Not any. Not even a quantum of truck. None.

I called off his players' names as they came marching up the steps behind him....All nice guys. They'll finish last. Nice guys. Finish last.

It's alright so long as it leads to a kickass powerslide.

RPGs set in fantasy lands with characters and enemies involving any or all of the following:

    Elves
    Goblins
    Trolls
    Wizards
    Dwarves

THE NOTABLE EXCEPTION BEING Fable. I don't know what it is about Fable that makes me like it over all the other shitty fantasy RPGs. Maybe it's because it's AWESOME.

Got to be beat 'em ups.

Have never liked them. Soul Caliber 2 was the closest to being enjoyable that I have found, but something about beating 10 or so characters, then a boss, then repeating the task until you have used every character just isnt my thing. I always enjoy looking at them, as it is interesting to see what developers have done to differentiate the game from all the others.
