It's basically because somebody has to be the first mayor.
The first mayor usually strawberry floats up and kills a villager. Seeing as I've been the first to point the finger with good intentions, it might as well be me that goes first.

I realise I'll probably be for the chop tomorrow or wednesday. But I'm trying to do my bit to take a chunk out of the wolves.

I think the last one was fast paced because we all had assigned account so were playing characters more than just being us.

Everyone has had plenty of time since the game started. No excuses really, you can use your pc, laptop, tablet or mobile.

It was entirely random. I used:

Entered the number of players (68) and it picked Hank out as the random lynchee.
