Are you ready?

The next gen is coming and it's going to be the best thing ever.
Yes, that's right even better than a perfectly timed "Your Mum!" joke.

I know I am and I'll pre-order it on day one because that's the kind of dude I am.

What are you looking forward to Pete?

I love a new shiny console but I’m not sure what I’m excited about. I would to hear every game will be atleast 1080p/60fps but we know that won’t be the case. I’m not sure what it’s going to take to make VR exciting so not fussed with that

I’m atleast expecting this mind

Which was promised in 2013!

I suppose I'm one of those types who just always enjoys speculating about the new.
I'm not expecting a huge upgrade in graphics over the One X for example but I do think games will become much more fully fleshed with more random stuff being done by NPC's (not completely random but people given jobs and doing them like a more complex version of the people in Assassin's Creed Origins) and more use of physics.

4K will obviously be a limit on next gen so at least we won't face another generation of tech struggling just to cope with the resolution as the next gen consoles will be able to handle 4K 60fps as standard and I don't think I'm asking a lot here as PC people now can manage that without breaking the bank.

Nope, too many big games coming 2019 and 2020 already, PS4 Pro and Xbox One X have extended the generation

Also, we already have a thread

Errrr what now? Without breaking the bank? 4k/60fps?

:slol:

I can just about manage PUBG at full settings @ 1080p/60fps and that 60fps doesn't hold.

No thanks, we don't need yet another console generation, especially since the current one has plenty of life still left within it.

Not only that, but the PS4 is one of (if not the) finest consoles i have ever used, so why spoil it?

Games this gen are still struggling to hit stable 1080p/30fps so there's no chance of 4K 60fps any time soon. I hope next gen that performance mode is an option with all games since I'd easily take 1080p 60fps over 4k 30fps any day.

They're in a pretty comfortable spot right now with plenty of more room for sales with the PS4 (I just recently upgraded to a Pro). I'd genuinely be shocked if we got any hint of the next generation anytime soon.

I am hopeful for more games with "performance" modes (lower res and worse graphical effects to hit a higher framerate) in the next gen, bit I think devs will always (not being literal here) opt for more and better polys/textures/lighting/shaders/graphical effects over resolution and framerate.
4K will of course be the "standard" resolution of next gen consoles, but tons of games will upscale from 1440p or use checkerboard rendering (especially on whichever console is the weaker one), just like this gen (the second full HD console generation no less) there are still some games rendering at 900p or similar.

Ps4 only came out a year ago, it's too soon for this.

We are talking probably 18-36 months from now and when it comes it should beat Xbox One X which manages a fair amount of 4k/30 at the moment.

EDIT - Its really not possible on PC at the moment by the way, without spending an awful lot of money.

It really shouldn't be asking all that much for 4k to be the standard resolution, I'm sure there will be games which lock to 30fps just to really push the graphical side of things, but 60fps shouldn't be an issue for games that benefit from it.

Not interested. Hoping we won't see anything until late 2020 at the earliest, and even then I'm not going to bother picking up new hardware until the open beta test models have been succeeded.

I'll be picking them up as soon as they are released, but I don't expect it to be till at least 2020. Its clear the tech isn't ready yet to support what these consoles will have to be to be comfortably more powerful than what is currently available at a price point that is reasonable.

Personally, I hope that new machines don't arrive in the "near" future; certainly not before 2020. I'm thoroughly enjoying the current gen systems and I feel that the Pro and X models still have untapped potential. Things may change but, at present, I don't think I'd place a pre-order for a new machine as I did with current consoles.

Late 2020 sounds good to me.

2020 would be best, but I wouldn't be totally averse to a late 2019 launch.

I've not upgraded to a Pro, so I'd be happy for the jump in performance. Hopefully they implement some form of Backwards Compatibility as that's going to be a huge factor for Xbox going forward (I genuinely think we're going to see full compatibility with XB1 out of the box there), especially with the market becoming increasingly Digital.
