I must admit, I thought it was you who posted them!

I always thought it was such a good analogy that if you wanted to imagine what the next dimension up is, it's what you'd have to fold any two points in your current dimension to get them to occupy the same space. Say you have two points on a 2D plane, like a piece of paper, to get them to occupy the same space you'd have to fold the paper through the the third dimension to get them to touch. Similarly, if we imagine every instant of our 3D existence as one 'point', then to get two 'points', or two instants (like lunchtime yesterday and tea time tomorrow), then to get those two 'points' to occupy the same space you'd have to fold our 3D world through the 4th Dimension. So yes, in a way, you could call the 4th Dimension 'time' as it is what is being 'folded' to make any two instants of our 3D world come together.

I'm guessing it's these ones then?

I'm watching 'em now.

Wait a second, has that been proven? Because I'd hardly cite Asteroids as a reliable source for this.

Of course it's not been proven! We've only just made it to the bloody moon! Let alone the other side of the known universe.

I know, I just wanted to mention Asteroids.

String theory always seems more like a pseudoscience to me. "Hey, wouldn't it be cool if there were like, multiple timelines n' gooseberry fool? And they had their own dimension?"

I'm probably just saying that because I don't understand it, though.

Those videos are far too confusing. How can the fourth dimension be time though? Time is something we made up...so surely every other dimension after that is a load of bollocks too..?

Okay so the very basic particles might be made up of something even smaller, I can dig that. Wait, why strings? Vibrating strings?! No don't keep going! D-branes?! What the strawberry float are you talking about?!

Yeah, I don't really get strong theory.

How on earth is time something we made up? We made up the way time is measured, but the passage of time is entirely independant of man.

It's a term for the distance between two events. Birth and death, for example. But if we did away with our measurement of time, things would just happen and we'd have no perception of what time was, how long things took to happen, or how long it had been from one event to another.

Putting a line between one event and another and calling that time is something we've created. Without humans to take a look at things, everything would just happen and there'd be no perception of time.

Lotus, we call it time, that's the term, but it is something that has always existed.

It's almost impossible to define as an actual thing. What is time? It's, like, the thing that separates stuff from before from stuff that happens now?

I see time as a sequence of moments where each atom in the universe is "frozen" is place. Like a strobe light, if you want an analogy that could get shot down by physics students.

Which I guess is the Newtonian side of the theories?

Well, exactly, time is simply a measure of change. If nothing is changing then time is not passing.

In theory, once a day all the atoms in the known universe could freeze for the equivalent of a billion years, except not really because if nothing's changing then time has stopped.

My head hurts.

Isn't time just a measurement? Like metres and millimetres. A way for us to gage size etc.
