I very rarely use my smartphone though.

I try to use my smartphone minimally mainly to try and preserve the battery life

I miss when phones had batteries you could change in seconds

Between work and my free time I'm online an awful lot, but I wouldn't say terminally. I have chat apps on my phone but I'm not a big smart phone user - when I'm out of the house I usually have data turned off. I'll walk the dog for an hour a day, longer at weekends, which is a reliable break from anything else. When I'm downstairs in the morning or evenings I'll be watching TV or playing mostly singleplayer games, which might technically be online but isn't in the social sense. We're still a big terrestrial TV household and I listen to the radio when I'm in the kitchen. For me that's about avoiding choice paralysis more than anything else.

Option 3 on good days, option 2 on sad, dystopic, self-loathing, admin drenched days. Other days I just accept that's the way I and/or other people interact outside the household/small circle. A bad thing is also probably at least as bad if you deprive yourself of it entirely.

1000x better having ditched the smartphone though. I really recommend turning the strawberry floating thing off for as long a span as possible until you genuinely must use it (for example, it's the only way I can approve a Tesco Bank transaction).

I think it depends how you define terminally online.

If I didn't have an internet connection I would really struggle. I wouldn't be able to do any work, it would be much more difficult to chat to my IRL pals, and it's the main way I access entertainment. I would probably even miss this website after a while...! ;)

But isn't that mostly true of most people who are around 30?

To see it the other way, I am very capable of taking a few hours or even days and not doing anything online. I have mostly avoided having any social media presence and I am not addicted to Facebook / Twitter / Instagram / TikTok like many people are. The closest I've come is taking this forum quite seriously at times, but I've been a much more casual poster for the last few years! :slol:

I don't do social media either, yet would definitely feel 'lost' without internet access.

I think I'm addicted to generating AI art though
