Got a "Recommended" from Eurogamer too:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017- ... rms-review

Think I'm going to take the plunge when it comes out. I normally lack the patience and time to learn a fighter, so hopefully the "Party" aspect, as well as the feeling that anyone can come round and have a game, means I'll revisit it more often than Street Fighter. I tend to get frustrated and put them to one side without ever progressing past the Beginner tier. Normally my poor inputs let me down, whereas at least here it's more about where and when you use your moves, rather than whether you have the physical skill to execute them.

The in-room multiplayer should save this though. I can't invite people to play SF as it's quite daunting to newcomers (as well as for me). Here, anyone can pick the joy cons up and flail a bit. Just hope it has depth and staying power.

Damn, the AI are no joke in this game!

Getting wrecked on level 4 (need to beat level 4 to unlock ranked)

I wish I'd taken part in the global test punch. I thought ARMS looked good when first announced, but aside from Smash Bros. and some Street Fighter I've never really been much of a fan of fighting games.

Anyone pick this up today? Enjoying it?

I'm tempted by this as I haven't bought a Switch game since launch, but it's a lot of money and annoyingly I missed the test-punch. Like Jam-Master Jay, I don't often play fighters outside of Smash or SF.

Yeah I've spent all night playing it with friends and having a few drinks. They loved it, and the one guy who owned a Switch and was on the fence about it (he didn't play the Testpunch) is going to go out and buy it on Monday.

I'm not a massive fighting game buff - I've always wanted to get gud at Street Fighter but my execution eternally lets me down - but this seems like a good mix of accessibility and depth.

A newcomer can flail around and still get the tactile enjoyment out of throwing punches, but it has enough depth so that if you know what you're doing you should beat a button masher easily.

It also has a nice learning curve. I wasn't a fan of moving with the motion controls during the Testpunch, but now I probably prefer it to the Pro controller (though when we did three player I had to go back to the Pro and it's fine once you re-adjust).

If they keep up the DLC support it should grow and grow. The added modes like Hoops and Volleyball are fine, but the fighting is the main attraction and the online lobby system is great and ensures games come thick and fast. They're pretty addictive too and you're always tempted to stay on to get some more currency to unlock more Arms. Whether that might fade as you unlock everything I don't know.

I'm not sure how it will cope as an esport or amongst the genre's best, but it's a great party game. People were able to pick it up and be competitive, but it doesn't have the power ups of Mario Kart so it isn't quite as random (though the free-for-all modes mean you can get ganged up on).

If you're playing it with friends I would say definitely get it. If you're going to focus solely on online ranked, then it's probably worth getting too (though who knows how it will grow, develop and be accepted amongst the more "serious" players).

If you're just a solo player playing the A.I, it's not worth it. It's a game for fighting other human opponents, preferably in the same room. It should get better online when they add voice coms too.

I really like the aesthetics too, and considering it's a brand new IP in an area Nintendo haven't really ventured in to, it's a success. As I've said, it could grow and grow with free DLC and support. It's now weird that quite a few people thought it looked dodgy when it first came out, as it's a really solid, fun game. You can tell the MK8 team we're behind it, as that was equally founded on accessible entertainment twisted around strong game design.

It sounds like a blast but I haven't seen any of my friends for a good 5-or-6 years now so local multiplayer isn't an option for me. The free DLC in the coming months is rather appealing in this era of lootboxes, season passes and having to pay extra for content which should have been included in the base game.

I think I'll see how this one develops and maybe take the plunge in a few months as I don't want to end up regretting a purchase like I did with MK8 Deluxe.

Thanks for the games Qikz :toot:

One thing I was glad to notice; you can join a friend if they're in a lobby with random people

It just hasn't grabbed me like previous Mario Kart games did. I don't feel compelled to complete each cup or even play online, but I am very jaded with gaming in general right now.

I'm seeing the same pattern emerge where I'll be looking forward to a game only to play it for a few hours and then completely lose interest. You should see my Steam library. :fp:
