What is ARMS?

ARMS is a fighting game where you use stretchy weaponised arms to punch, thump and knock-out opponents. Get ready to put ‘em up, do battle with a colourful range of characters and fight to claim the number one title!

Your fighter moves in line with your hands as you unleash a wide range of punches and other pugilistic moves.

With the Joy-Con, you’ll feel like you’re right there in the battle, dodging incoming attacks and throwing punches towards your opponent.

Each fighter in ARMS is brimming with personality and can be equipped with special ARMS that have their own unique attributes. By combining different fighters and ARMS, you can come up with a fighting style that suits you best.

Are there other control methods?

Yes. You can use motion controls :toot: or the buttons and sticks of the Joy-Cons to fight. ARMS also supports the Pro Controller and a single Joy-Con.

I managed to take part in the second half of the most recent Testpunch and I'm looking forward to spending more time with the game in the rest of the Testpunches and when it launches. Being able to practise fighting while you wait in the lobby for a match to start makes it a lot more accessible as I can test out different gear instead of staring at a screen. I had no trouble getting into a match though a couple of people disconnected from my matches once they had begun. I'll be staying up late to fight again tonight :toot:

I'm too tired to stay up and play/ watch the next ARMS test at 01:00. It sounds like you guys enjoyed the earlier test, even if some modes were a tad chaotic!

I'm contriving to miss all of the Testpunch slots but it's good to hear that impressions are positive.

Are you all playing using the joy-con... or has anyone tried the Pro Controller? Looking at Dragon's "controls" post, I wondered if the joy-con option - albeit intuitive - may prove a bit tiring for extended play?

I'm not usually a fan of fighting games but this appears to be pretty accessible?

Aside from playing in undocked mode for last night's 1am testpunch, I've been playing exclusively with the pro controller and have found it very intuitive :) My only gripe is guard being activated by left stick pushed in, really hoping I can map that to a face button in the full release.

Ah, okay, thanks man. Sounds cool. Has anyone else tried the joy-con move controls yet?

Little pro-tip I just discovered from the in game help: you can hold down jump or dash to power up punches in different ways, slows you down while you're charging but the results can be worth it if timed correctly!

What are you supposed to do with the drinks bottle things that appear?

If you go in the range of them, you'll either increase health or super meter depending on the colour. So ideally you want to stay in the drink's circle and knock opponents away it
