I was pretty good and won more than I lost once I switched to the Pro controller.

Which is a shame, really, as the game loses some of its tactile pleasures when you are just hitting a button. But I cannot get on with moving via the motion controls. I hope they put an option in for the analogue sticks in dual joycon mode.

Once I switch to analogue sticks I was able to move around a lot more. The problem then is you instinctively have your thumb on the stick so your punches tend to curve that way.

The game is a lot of fun and I'm not knocking it, but I think they probably need to revisit how it controls, as neither motion nor button modes sound great at the moment. I personally had some trouble with left stick in to guard.

Yeah, guarding was too much of a faff, and so I lost a lot. Need it to be on one of the triggers, I think.

Good fun, though.

I think I'm gonna hold off from picking up ARMS. I'm not a fan of fighting games (outside of scrolling beat-em-ups!) and, although the characters and artwork do look cool in this, I don't think the gameplay will suit me. I plan on sitting this out and saving my money for Splatoon 2 in late July.

Guarding is easy on motion controls.

Guarding though isn't even that effective, since you'll get grabbed :P

Only played a handful of matches using the pro controller but I'm quite surpised how sharp it feels and looks in one on one battles. Team matches turn into a bit of a clusterfuck though and I don't think there's enough there to pick it up straight away, but I'm certainly more interested in it than before.

I ended up liking 3/4 player matches more than I expected to, becomes an interesting crowd control game of trying to decide who you should be targeting in each scenario. Team battles can be infuriating if your partner gets thrown a lot though, as you end up being flung back as well

It's something you'll want to do here and there, especially with Ninjara as he warps after guarding an attack which can be handy. But aye, as with other fighters it leaves you open for grabs if you're not careful!

Following the discussions in the "Is gaming an expensive hobby?" thread, and my subsequent reflections about spending (for me) far too much dough on gaming over the past year, this was one of my pre-ordered titles that I have cancelled.

So, uhm... I'm not going to try the demo because I don't want to change my mind. I hope you guys enjoy it, though!

I gotta stop my habits of (a) Pre-ordering, and (b) Letting myself get caught up in the advertising hype that I must have game XYZ. That thread really made think... I have been pretty silly over the past couple of years :shifty: .

That's cool dude. I can see Arms becoming a big thing on here, though - it's really good, and obviously multiplayer-centric - so hopefully you'll join us eventually. :)

I managed to take part in Sunday afternoon's Testpunch and enjoyed using Twintelle during that hour. Master Mummy was my character of choice last weekend but I think that I'll continue using Twintelle when the full game launches next week.

I'm excited! :toot:

This feels like one of those games that lack content at the start but become more fulfilling over time.
