http://www.theverge.com/2016/7/31/12337 ... w-episodes

Producer Mitch Hurwitz has apparently just finished recutting the entire 4th season together, into a more conventional format, of 22 episodes of 20 minutes each. Presumably, this means the whole thing will run more chronologically, and Ron Howard has supposedly redone the entire series narration.

It's been done to allow the potential for syndication, but sadly, there's no indication of whether it'll be made generally available.

I'd really like to see what season 4 comes out like when the episodes have more of a balance between characters, rather than each one focusing on an individual. Hopefully this gets released at some point.

Would love to see that, I feel like it'd be a much better series. I tend to watch up to the end of three and stop.

Feel like it exposed the weaker characters a little. They're all amazing as an ensemble but the episodes that focused on certain ones were harder to watch.

It was still great though.

Finished watching this (all 4 seasons) for the first time. Loved the first 3 seasons, not sure who my favourite character is though. Buster makes me laugh but is best in small doses. Gob/Tobias are the obvious choices for best character but I do also love any scene with Winkler. Bob Loblaw's name makes me laugh way too much. As does Mr F for some reason.

Season 4 has its moments and really becomes the Gob show as he has the strongest episodes/lines. It's disappointing though after the quality of the earlier seasons.

Her?

Given the timeliness, he is champing at the bit and hoping to get the new season out before the November Presidential elections, he shared in a party conversation.

Seems ambitious given the fact he hasn't even got the cast to agree when they're available and they all have prior commitments.

I'd forgotten just how much of the fourth series has actually happened, now. I really want to go back and rewatch it.

It's a very rewatchable show as well. The jokes are so fast that you end of laughing and missing some stuff.

I love all the characters to be honest. Lucille is also great and some of her lines are hilarious. Winkler is brilliant when he shows up.

You wouldn't happen to be one of those silly men who is dressed as woman?

Excellent news. But what happened with the re-editing of the fourth season to create consecutive episodes? Did it ever actually happen?

'Arrested Development' Officially Renewed for Season 5 at Netflix

The Bluths are returning to Netflix.

The streaming giant has finally confirmed that it's ordered a fifth season of the cult comedy. Creator Mitchell Hurwitz and the entire series regular cast — including Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, Jeffrey Tambor, Jessica Walter, Will Arnett, Tony Hale, Portia de Rossi, David Cross and Alia Shawkat — will return for the new episodes, which will premiere in 2018.

The announcement comes a week after Bateman tweeted that he had closed a deal to star in more episodes of the show. Sources told The Hollywood Reporter at the time that Hurwitz's deal was done weeks ago and that the writers room had already started up.

“In talks with Netflix we all felt that stories about a narcissistic, erratically behaving family in the building business — and their desperate abuses of power — are really underrepresented on TV these days,” said Hurwitz. “I am so grateful to them and to 20th TV for making this dream of mine come true in bringing the Bluths, George Sr., Lucille and the kids — Michael, Ivanka, Don Jr., Eric, George-Michael, and who am I forgetting, oh Tiffany. Did I say Tiffany? — back to the glorious stream of life.”

"Arrested Development brings us structures, outerwear and choreography like no other comedy in history,” said Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos. “Season four marked the first foray by Netflix into original comedy programming and this time, the Bluths will collectively be spending more quality time with their millions of fans around the world”

"Arrested Development remains one of the iconic franchises we, Ron and Brian are asked about most," added Fox Television Group Chairmen and CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman. "It's a testament to the brilliance of Mitch's creation, the passion of his audience, and the love his cast holds in their hearts for his writing and characters that we have been able to 'get the band back together ' not once but twice since the Emmy-winning original run. Get ready, America. The Bluths are coming back."

“I love working with Mitch. He is a genius and the rarest of original thinkers. He brings a richness to the characters and the storylines that makes the series memorably fun,” said Grazer, with Howard adding: "Whew! I can finally answer the question…. Hell yes! Warming up my uncredited narrator vocal chords. Now the only thing I will have to be coy about is all the craziness the Bluths are going to face this season.”

Hmm. I will probably watch season 5 when it comes out but season 4 was a real let down for me.

In fact it's one of those odd situations where the disappointment of S4 actually made me reconsider whether I thought the rest of the show was actually as good as I remembered, and now I tend to think it's not. I used to re-watch S1-3 fairly regularly back in the day but I just can't seem to enjoy it as much anymore!

Jeffrey Tambor has retroactively ruined all the George Sr. sex jokes. :(
