As Amazon US announce service that lets delivery drivers into your home, would you?

Fed up talking videogames? Why?

If this were available in your country, would you use it?

Amazon verifies the delivery driver through an authentication process, turns on Cloud Cam to record, then grants access for the driver to deliver your package just inside your front door.

"After the driver drops off your package and confirms that your door is locked, we'll send a notification that the delivery is complete. If your plans change, you can select 'Block Access' up until the delivery time and the driver will follow a standard delivery procedure for your address. All in-home deliveries are backed by Amazon Key Happiness Guarantee, so you can rest easy knowing your package will be waiting just inside your door."

The whole thing doubles as a friends and family access system. You can give family and friends temporary, recurring or permanent access. That'll make it easier for my wife to change the locks on me, then.

- Not at home? Not a problem. As a Prime member, you can get packages securely delivered into your home without being there. Plus, grant access to the people you trust, like your family, friends, dog walker, or house cleaner—no more leaving a key under the mat.

- Secure access. The In-Home Kit features the Amazon Cloud Cam (Key Edition) indoor security camera and an Amazon Key-compatible smart lock.
- Real-time notifications. We’ll send notifications the morning of delivery, just before, and right after. Watch your delivery happening live or view a video clip of it later.
- Stop making spare keys. Give family and friends temporary, recurring, or permanent access. Or provide one-time access for your electrician or dog walker. You’re in control—just schedule the date and time window.
- Check in on your front door 24/7. The Amazon Key In-Home Kit includes an Amazon Cloud Cam (Key Edition) indoor security camera with 1080p Full HD, night vision, and more—plus an Amazon Key-compatible smart lock for secure access control.

- Free installation. Get the Amazon Key In-Home Kit installed for free by a professional. Just schedule your installation appointment during checkout.
- Exclusively for Prime members in select cities and surrounding areas. Enter your zip code to see if Amazon Key is available in your area. Check back as we expand to more cities.

Never ever ever ever ever.

How long until the first story of a courier stealing/attacking someone? Or wanking into their closet or something?

Urgh.

Nope.

I would happily have them text me an alert when my package was next in line to be delivered, though. How about you offer that simple courtesy first, Amazon, huh?

If I had a porch with another locked internal door then maybe just to grant access to that, but otherwise fuuuuuuuck no.

It'd be interesting to read the liability T&Cs to this thing, and what home insurance companies have got to say about it.

Yeah I can see insurance companies using this as an instant get out in the event of a break in.

I'd definitely never use a service like this. I'd rather have a parcel left with a neighbour or have to go collect it at a depot.

It is an interesting idea, but just sounds like a great way to get your house broken into.

But if you had a delivery service that provided the option to choose a date, time, or allowed you to track the driver (like DPD) then this wouldn't even need to exist.

This just seems a totally over-the-top solution to not being in.

Just get a delivery locker. It's a lot cheaper.

It'd work well giving access to just a porch - in fact it could increase security for some people as a lot of people leave their porches open for deliveries.

But would I ever use it? Easy answer considering I haven't bought anything from amazon for about 4-5 years now.

This.

Food shopping deliveries allow you to select a date and a time window, I can’t see any reason why Amazon wouldn’t be able to.

This.

In the last place I rented this service would have worked well enough but in my current house it just wouldn't work.
