Joe Denly - Best T20I figures by an England player vs. Sri Lanka.

Well, that's his place in test side secured.

nooooooooooooooooooo

Rashid didn't exactly let himself down either. I'm not sure two leggies will help much.

I reckon it'll be:

Jennings, Burns, Moeen, Root, Stokes, Denly, Buttler, Curran, Rashid, Broad, Anderson.

You may well be right. Which is a Broad and a leggie too much.

I think Drummy is right with that side. Personally I'd like to Moeen back down the order and Denly at 3 but I don't think England's selectors would want to go into a test with that inexperienced a top 3. I think Broad, Stokes, Anderson and Curran is probably 1 seamer too many but the flexibility of Stokes, Moeen, Root and Denly give England so many bowling options that I don't think they'd play 2 out and out spinners. Fingers crossed Curran gets in ahead of Woakes.

Surely they wouldn't play Stokes, Jimmy, Broad AND Woakes? :slol:

We can all see it happening...

On Denly, no specific dislike as such. He’s just made his runs and taken his wickets in the second division, after being bobbins for Middlesex in the first. And he feels like he’s been picked as a bit-and-pieces player when England have them coming out of their ears, and what they need are the best batsmen in the country up top.

Fair enough.

I agree, FWIW, that's why we have Keaton Jennings opening the batting.

Confirmed, either the ECB reads GR or Balladeer is chief of selectors.

Yes! That means it could be Jimmy, Currant Bun and Stokes, which is the right direction IMO as it affords them the opportunity to play 3 proper spinners in Mo, Leach and Rashid.

Ah who am I kidding

Thinking != doing sadly. I bet they chicken out. Broad has some serious clout in that dressing room, as does his mate and bowling partner.

Bit of an odd England side today, neither of the expected two openers playing, Foakes in but Buttler supposedly keeping wicket and Broad, Anderson and Woakes.

I did enjoy the photo on Twitter of the England team walking off the pitch with all their bags on the boundary edge just like village teams up and down the country in the middle of summer.

Edit: Denly's just gone for 16 off his first five balls :shifty:

Incidentally, the warm-up team shows that England surely aren’t that committed to this.
