And Root does the same too apparently (listening on the radii rather than watching).

At 173-4 or whatever it was, we were in a decent position. Even accounting for Moeen going just before lunch. But we have just lost three stupid wickets. Root is slightly more forgiveable as he had amassed a good score, but he should have seen the other wickets fall and not succumb to it himself.

Falling for that gooseberry fool... I want to call it amateurish but it really would be an insult to part-timers.

If the opposition put two or three men on the leg side boundary in my club cricket games and I get out caught pulling or hooking I hate to think what my captain would say to me as I came back. I'd hide. The fact that it just happened three times in about 15 minutes in an international match where if they batted to the close of play they'd win is beyond me. Completely beyond me.

Looks like the senior England players have finally stepped up to the mark with some good batting by Cook and Bell and better bowling from Broad and Anderson. I guess its easier to captain when the whole team is contributing but I think Cook has done a pretty good job in this test including taking some good slip catches. Has he turned a corner?

Came back from being out since 9am, turned on the cricket as Jadeja begins his runup. Root bowled, England declare.

Sorry I was late guys.

Brilliant catch by Jordan earlier. Another five of those and it'll make up for his bowling yesterday.

A little miffed with some of the reaction from England fans on the internet and radio today. Some were lambasting Cook for not enforcing the follow-on. That is fair enough I suppose, but to constantly mention this throughout the days strikes me as a little vindictive - that even when Cook males a decision that still leaves us in a strong leading position, he gets attacked for what may have hypothetically happened had India followed on.

It seems pointless when we are still doing well, as who knows if us batting first would have led down a better path. People were moaning that the game could have been over today, but India could also have got stuck in against tired bowlers, inside of chasing a world record total against some relatively rested players.

We were never going to enforce the follow on, teams just don't do that these days. My only slight criticism would be that we could have had 30 minutes at them before tea but even that is moot given the situation at the end of the day. He's had a very good test all round, particularly with his bowling changes, fair play to him for gritting his teeth and sticking it out.

And another  for Moeen, his confidence in his bowling must be sky high at the moment.
