First T20I tonight but not too far off is the first test against the Saffers. Question is who is going to make the team? Hameed has been dreadful this season. Jennings should arguably have done better in Div 2 and Woakes seems likely to miss out due to injury.

What do you do, GR?

Can see the ECB sticking with both Hameed and Jennings or neither. If one gets in so will the other and that would speak more of the mentality of the ECB over anything else.

Likewise I can also see them putting their golden boy Ballance back in (and tbf they'd have a case to do so on current form).

Normally I'd post my XI but I don't actually know what I'd do.

You know what, with Chef in solid form with the bat then I'd be happy with a recall for Hales. He's in tremendous form this summer (though mostly in limited overs cricket) and then I'd be looking at Root for 3. I also think Morgan deserves a shot at test cricket again. Followed by Bairstow, Stokes and Moeen. After that, Woakes (if he's fit), Broad, Anderson and one from Finn or Wood. If Woakes isn't fit or the pitch looks like spin then I'd bring in Rasheed (for Finn/Wood if Woakes is fit).

I genuinely don't believe that Hales has it in him to curb his attacking nature to become a reliable batsman at test level. He's a tremendous white ball player (despite those still complaining over him missing the Bangladesh tour) and I think that should be his focus.

Root at 4 and JB at 5. Spots 2 and 3 I'm still undecided about.

Oh and apparently Broad might be out as well.

Nooooo! Is it with immediate effect?

Who else would offer up such gems as "Josh Hazlecrack"?

No idea how we lost that. Roy and JB left the rest with little more than a run a ball left to get.

Cocked that up. Should have easily won from the position we were in. Roy was a bit of a tit for how he got out, but Livingstone didn't look great

Ballance appointed Lions captain... Might as well accept the inevitable now, I suppose.

I don't understand the selection of Livingstone for this series. He's a first-class player, not a T20 specialist.

Seems based in the ongoing Lions match that Stoneman and Jennings have nailed down spots 2 and 3 for the first test.

I'm calling it now, Morgan rested yesterday so he can play for Middlesex today in the day/night county games ahead of a recall to the test team.

EDIT: Or not. :fp:

After poor scores for both Hameed and Jennings then I think Hales could push himself forwards for a recall with a big score against Kent today. So place your bets on whether he'll be out at 14.05 or 14.10.

I think Jennings will be alright. He scored well for the Lions in both innings last week and even though he hasn't had a strong season (especially when factoring in he faces Div 2 bowling) I think the ECB will stick with him.

Speaking of our good friends at the ECB... just in case anyone here needs a reminder about how Ballance fared the last time (before his inevitable recall)...

Another century for Cook. He is absolutely gobbling up the runs so far this year.

He really is! Every time I've looked at an Essex scorecard he's been in the runs.

Also:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/40455556

English international and domestic cricket will be shown live on BBC TV for the first time in 21 years from 2020.

In a five-year deal with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), more than 100 hours of cricket will be broadcast each summer.

The contract includes live TV coverage of England men and women's Twenty20 internationals and the ECB's new men's domestic T20 tournament.

TV highlights of England men's home internationals will also be shown.

Well that's bloody fantastic news.

I'm really hoping Cook kicks on now and cements himself as England's highest ever run scorer and most test centuries. Looking at the numbers, he should be targeting top 5 ever test match run scorers (he needs 1300 runs to go above Sangakkara) and definitely top 4 in 100s (he's on 30, Sangakkara in 4th has 38). Ponting in 3rd place with 41 centuries is achievable if he gets a few years of injury free cricket. Tendulkar is just too far away though.

Live cricket returns to BBC as part of deal for new Twenty20 tournament

• BBC will show 10 live matches from the ECB’s new T20 competition
• Sky outbid BT Sport and retain bulk of rights

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2017/ ... tournament

I think Beeb will also show home international highlights during prime time hours.
