The only way England get out of this is if Broad has one of those spells.

Good start. Get these two out cheaply and we are in business as aside from Ashwin the rest aren't dangerous.

FFS Drummy, respect the power of the GR mockers. At least one of the last 5 will get a ton now. :fp:

Might as well declare overnight. We're not going to get more than 250

Yeah, I wouldn't expect us to chase more than 270.

Well this should be a nice and simple chase.

Cook. :(

I just had that feeling that we would lose one in that last over. Still at least he and Hameed blocked out a third of the required overs. Think we can say for sure that Hameed is the real deal, can't wait to see him get a go next year on some English pitches.

Yeah, I thought we'd lose one in the last over as well. Just lost a bit of concentration, but he'd have only gotten out first thing tomorrow anyway.
Hopefully Root, Moeen, Bairstow and Stokes can knuckle down and grind this out.

That's that then. Best hope we win the toss I guess. Duckett will be dropped, probably for Ballance or Buttler. I'd prefer to see Billings because he is actually a good player of spin.

Might be tempted to drop Ansari for Batty as he isn't really doing anything. Cook evidently is not convinced by him as he barely bowled any overs in the entire match.

How about, seeing as our seamers were just as effective as the spinners (not including Ansari), dropping Ansari for Woakes? It is a little reactionist I admit but it is an option. Broad might not even be able to play the next game anyway so it might be moot.

Lost that game in the first half of our first innings. I absolutely hate how so many matches (including home internationals in England) are decided by pitch preparation and the toss. India were never really going to win the first test barring a massive English cock up and vice versa in the second test. It's so frustrating that so much comes down to the flip of a coin. I love how our County scene works now.

I just had a look at ESPN's statsguru tool to look up how many tests since 2000 have been won by the team batting second. That doesn't look awful, but when you remove all of the India wins it makes for some pretty grim reading.

Edit: I also just checked the results of the ground at the next test for the same time period. India 6-0 ROW.

Duckett just looks like a walking wicket at this point, I wonder whether sticking with him might be more detrimental in the long run. I'd play Bairstow at 4 and then either bring in Woakes or if Broad isn't fit and Woakes plays anyway then Buttler but I'd probably leave the gloves with Bairstow.

There is no reason to take the gloves away from JB. Seems like a long time ago that people were complaining about his glove work in South Africa.

His keeping was very good in Bangladesh, he's definitely done enough to cement his place as England's no. 1 keeper.

These strawberry floating Aussies

Du Plessis is booed by Aussie crowd after ball-tampering verdict, scores a century in response and Australia end the day at 14-0 after SA declared at 259. The paper down under put this on their back page.
