So Cook keeps his place for an Oval send off so I'd drop Jennings but assure him his place is fine for Sri Lanka. Then I'd play Burns alongside Cook.

I think it's time he went as his form's not been great, but he's been a fantastic batsman for England. He deserves the send off, but it's frustrating that that means there's no audition for a new opening partnership before Sri Lanka

No changes to the squad aside from Vince being released back to Hampshire. Pope playing in the Surrey game for 2 days and then will meet up with the squad. Seems like an opportunity missed to me.

It's unerring how obvious this was... as Burns passes 50 again for Surrey.

Meanwhile Jack Leach has just bowled Lancashire out for 99.

Didn't Bairstow used to be good?

He was bad for a while, then he became very good, and now he seems to have gone bad again.

Fair play to the England in ensuring that Cookie gets another crack at a 100.

Even after Cook and Moeen gave them a wonderful foundation they've still managed to strawberry float it up to a colossal degree.

Root needs a rocket up his arse. He's been getting out in that same fashion for over a year now where his head is just so far over. He can't just continue to ignore it.

Bairstow should be dropped in order to get him to wake the strawberry float up and stop moaning about the gloves.

Very well played Messers Broad and Buttler. As mornings go, that was pretty much perfect for England.

5th highest run scorer in test history, highest scoring left hander, highest scoring opening batsman by quite a distance. As much as his contributions have dropped over recent years, he's still the best opener available to England at the moment.

Clearly should have retired and come back a couple of times, Pakistan-style!

He should retire at lunch 'injured' as I don't see there being time for a daddy hundred. What a way to go out, 50 and a ton.

Cook

Kind of want all the other batsmen to just get themselves out so he can carry his bat as well...
