No change in the openers. Vince on standby for Bairstow. Bairstow may play but won't keep wicket. Porter released to play for Essex. I thought Ed Smith was doing a decent job right up until now.

Tbf Vince IS actually having a good season, for the time they persisted with him but then dropped him just as he was coming good (70 against NZ, double ton in the Championship), and he just scored a 140 and a 70 in the most recent round of matches.

Graeme Hick used to score a metric fuckton of runs at county level but never made the step up, unfortunately I think Vince is the same.

That is a very fair opinion to have as he has been given plenty of chances, although he did have to contend with AUS/NZ away series which none of our batsmen really succeeded in. If YJB isn't 100% I see no sense in playing him, might as well give Vince a last couple of matches in home conditions whilst he is actually in form, unlike the other times they picked him.

The ‘no change in openers’ thing is the really galling bit.

There isn't anyone really pushing their case. [/EdSmith]

As said by Nick Hoult on Twitter:

England have a bloke batting at three who likes to bat four, a bloke batting four who likes to bat five, a bloke batting five who likes to bat six, a bloke batting six who was picked as a specialist no 7 and a no 7 who scored 219 last week batting at no 3

Is Mo going to bat at 3?

Kind of at the point where I don't care. Read a statement from JB earlier on which made it sound like he's more interested in keeping wicket than batting.

Someday the ECB will hopefully figure out Root should bat 4, Bairstow should bat at 5, Stokes 6, Buttler at 7 as WK and they also might want to give Burns a go sooner rather than later before they head off to the inevitable 3 days tests in SL and decide he isn't good enough based on those.

At least Curran has come back in.

Nope, 7. Hence the tweet.

Sigh. It's a mess.

Oh sorry I misread it originally. Yeah it's all a big joke.

The biggest joke of all is that everyone could stay in their best positions if they brought Burns in at 3.

Feels like it could be a ‘win toss win game’ match.

We've won the toss so that's the hard work done right there.

Give them their due, England are trying their best to prove me wrong. Moronic LBW from Jennings, and another LBW for Root only avoided due to being a no ball!

It's alright, he gifted them a reprieve.

I actually kind of hope England get destroyed here to make them pay for their harebrained stupidity and ignorance.

I'm not sure which is more piss poor, England's performance or India's inability to bowl more than 24 overs in a session.

To be fair Rex, all those wickets probably didn’t help the over rate.

Surely Currant Bun is going to be a mainstay in the team after this. He's been more effective with the bat than most of our team in his few experiences and he's a good left arm bowler giving us something different to rfms.
