Nah, this is like the chicken that's had his head cut off but doesn't realise he's dead. England have lost this, it's just a matter of time.

Australia need 66 more with 2 wickets remaining against Bangladesh...

Also, in the Caribbean Premier League, Ravi Rampaul took 5 for 3 from four overs with the wickets of Kane Williamson, Dwayne Smith, Eoin Morgan, Kieron Pollard and Wahab Riaz. Those first four names for three runs

What's Liam Livingstone got to do to be at least considered? Double century this round of county matches, first class average of 50+, averaging 55 batting at 3 this season for Lancs.

Wouldn't really fit in with the squad ;)

You got your wish! Although they're the Birmingham Bears now thank you.

Anyone just see the Bumble/Flintoff sing off? I have no idea what is going on on this planet any more. It's just too weird. Freddie just stacked it in front of 24,000 people

Samit always does something when Notts are on TV. ECB will never pick him as they're so focused on fitness regimens with their sides now  - Patel doesn't really fit in to their mould.

Top recovery from Notts. Good to see Woakes doing well though.

Keaton Jennings just failed again for Durham.

Last scores of: 17, 0, 16, 3, 1, 5, 4, 17, 0, 48, 0, 3, 8, 33, 39.

Ouch.

Yeah I don't think our friends over at the ECB should pick him for The Ashes. The Aussies took massive advantage of Ballance's technical flaws; they will have a field day with Jennings.

Of the other potential hopefuls:

-Hameed is really digging in whilst the rest of his team fail 33 (158!)
-Livingstone scored 7 but he did score 220-odd last week.
-Ballance was out for 12.
-Ben Duckett smashed 193 yesterday.
-Liam Dawson took 4-22.
-Jamie Porter has got 3-51.
-Finn 2-53.
-Hales got 28 and currently 0*.
- Mark Wood 3-30 and 72*!

Hameed now 65 off 207. The biggest criticism of his game this year is that he's loosened up outside off stump and got out caught behind the wicket a lot because he's playing in a more attacking fashion. Looks like today he may be going back to what worked so well previously. Long may this continue.

I (as a Hants fan) do rate Dawson but feel like he's probably had his chance. They're not going to throw him into an Ashes series now.

Ballance can GTFO

Duckett did a good job but got found out by spin against India. After scoring 193 he got out to a leggie (who used to be my school team captain  )

I haven't seen enough of Livingstone to comment really.

I'd like to see Hales given another chance. He seems to play too much white ball cricket to really settle in the test team but he's an incredible batsman and can take the game away from a team in a session (similarly to the way Stokes can). It's whether you want that risk at the top of an already frail top order.

Mark Wood

For me, as it stands, I'd take Hameed to the Ashes with Stoneman. You've got the option of then playing a natural number 3 or another opener at number 3, which, let's face it, wouldn't be any different to opening in our current test team or keeping him in reserve in case Stoneman just loses all form and confidence.

Livingstone has had a strong season in Div 1, bats at 3 for Lancs, averages over 50. He's an option for 3 or 5 depending how you want to handle the 3 openers situation. I agree with you on Hales but we already have a 6/7/8 that can all take a game away from the opposition in a session. I don't know if that's what we need at 5. Someone less flashy might be better.

Not sure about Wood.

I still think Eoin Morgan could do a job at 5, but I might be the only person who does.

Stokes is bowling superbly today. So dangerous. If he could do this on a regular basis...
