England coach Trevor Bayliss on the Ashes squad: "There are two or three positions that will take more time than the others. I can't see us going outside the people we have played in the last 12-18 months.

I've watched that Ian Bell one about 4 times and there is no way you can say it's definitely carried. Salty bastards.

:slol: He got into the England team as a defensive unit who it was so difficult to dislodge. After his injury, his technique changed and he's been getting out a lot caught behind the wicket playing outside his off stump. It sounds like someone has said this to him and now he's back to grinding out a strike rate of under 10.

He's 9 not out off 33 in their second innings, following on, so he's positively flying along.

I went out to open in a 40 over game once where we needed 175 to win and my captain told me to be there at the end. I promptly made 41 not out from 39 overs and we won by three wickets  Gotta know your role in the team.

Also - Westley failed today for Essex (got out to Woakes who's taken 2 for 64 off 24). Also, Stoneman scored 131 for Surrey, Ben Foakes (who some are suggesting as a backup keeper) scored a hundred too. You just know that Ballance is going to make a score for Yorks in that match

Why not bat JB at 5 and Foakes at 7? Foakes is a decent bat.

Hopefully we can do better today than the gooseberry fool show of Saturday.

Bairstow is opening the batting with Roy relegated to the bench.

Root just dropped Gayle at slip 4th ball of the game. Let's see if this is an omen :fp: :slol:

Always very strange to see Bairstow fielding at slip.

Hameed and Jennings both failed today for their counties.

Notts seem to be trying to outdo the Saffers with their current choking.

So pleased he's finally getting a run in the team and managed to convert his start to a ton.

Mini E wrote:Hameed and Jennings both failed today for their counties.

I think Jennings is done in terms of an Ashes call up. Hameed still has time but he needs something big. Would not bet against Stoneman making another ton tomorrow.

Sadly I would also not bet against Ballance putting Warks to the sword.

Subtle attempt at invoking a GR mockers on Ballance. The cricketing gods have taken note.

Success!

I see Stoneman made a 50... Surely his ticket down under is booked? He deserves to go based on his domestic form.
