No idea how we managed to strawberry float that up, 270 odd off 37 overs with 9 wickets in hand and then limped to 335. We should have had 400.

Having watched our innings, it was basically some irresponsible batting from the middle order. Once they'd lost Morgan, after losing Bairstow and Buttler in consecutive overs, they needed to milk Sodhi in particular for the many easy singles NZs field allowed for, which is what Root did. Instead, perhaps rather selfishly, the likes of Buttler, Morgan Stokes, Ali and Woakes wanted to start teeing off the absolute second they got to the crease. Those 5 batsmen, which make up probably the strongest middle order in LOIs, faced a collective total of 26 deliveries. After seeing JB launch the spinners for 100m+(!) sixes I can see why, but the reality is that Bairstow didn't start doing that until well set and that the situation was massively different. This put a lot of pressure on Root to bat through the innings, which is what he basically did.

Annoyingly I thought the decider was tonight. Nevermind.
