A good question. I believe that Hameed especially shined in the toughest of environments in world cricket, he is owed another shot. Jennings had a good start and for me the jury is still out, but again he should continue to get chances. Hopefully they both have decent first-class seasons.

Cook, Hameed, Jennings, Root, Bairstow, Stokes, Livingstone, Ali, Woakes, Broad, Anderson.

There's Mark Wood (if he ever gets fit) and Jake Ball waiting in the wings if Broad, Anderson or Woakes can't play.

The only spot that's really open for me is 7.

Not sure but we only scraped over the line against a West Indian XI today. Batting totally flopped other than Bairstow and Root.

Root yet again getting out after getting set and not going on to make it count.

BTW did you see that those damned Aussies absolutely destroyed India?

Yeah - I watched as much as I could bear. Very irritating. That collapse in the first innings was incredible to watch live. Was one of those rare passages of play like when we bowled out WI for 47 and 54 in.. er.. 2001? and bowling out Aus for 60 last year... you just expected a wicket every single ball.

I wouldn't say it's as much worrying as really strawberry floating annoying. The guy is absurdly talented and has the ability to be making centuries way more often than he actually is. The fact that I'm here moaning about the form of a guy that averages 52 in tests, 46 in ODIs and has for the past 2 years single-handedly dragged England kicking and screaming back into so many matches after top-order meltdowns is, I'll admit, a bit crazy. But it's a testament to how good he is that we're annoyed that he keeps losing focus at key moments.

I hate to go back to talking about those bloody Aussies, but look at Steve Smith. Once he gets past 70, you very rarely see him give his wicket away. In the last 2 years Root has got out between 70-99 12 times. In that time he has made 6 centuries. Steve Smith made 6 centuries last year alone. Yes he plays on those easy to bat featherbeds down under but it's a startling statistic.

It's something he really needs to work on. In his defence, he's frequently facing the second new ball around that time which is generally more difficult to face in England than Aus, but there's definitely a theme there above that.

Yeah. He is obviously aware of this because he has directly addressed it in the last few months and it must annoy him way more than it does us.

Saw this comment on Facebook this morning regarding Rahkeem Cornwall.

That guy looks like he spawns his own mini-bosses.
