That was a tremendous innings by Bairstow, unlucky not to get the ton but it shouldn't take anything away from him.

Poor Jonny, deserved a century there for all the world :(

Good start for us, we've got two of the big fish early. Can't understand Faf not batting at 4 though.

Top day. Test done, series won.

I really think JB going ape gooseberry fool on them this morning decimated their will to battle.

Is there really any point in England batting on this morning? I think the weather for Manchester tomorrow is pretty shitty, we should put them in right from the off.

Saffers probably did Rooty a favour. There is no winning with the media over declarations.

Good to see we've finally broke through that meddlesome Faf/Amla partnership. This could be a done deal by tonight.

Also of note is that Hameed is really digging in against Hants. I am calling it now, if he makes a century he'll play against the Windies.

Hales almost certainly deserves a recall, maybe at 5. Imagine the destructive power of that lower order.

If he continues to play at 5 there's a very good case to be made for a recall on the basis that he is allowed to play his own game and that he isn't dropped after one series. His style of play can have extremely polarising results but when he gets it right like today it's worth gold.

13 man squad for the WI series:

Joe Root (Yorkshire, captain)
Moeen Ali (Worcestershire)
James Anderson (Lancashire)
Jonathan Bairstow (Yorkshire)
Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire)
Alastair Cook (Essex)
Mason Crane (Hampshire)
Dawid Malan (Middlesex)
Toby Roland-Jones (Middlesex)
Ben Stokes (Durham)
Mark Stoneman (Surrey)
Tom Westley (Essex)
Chris Woakes (Warwickshire)

Nice to see Woakes back.

They need to wrap Woakes up in cotton wool in this next series. Keep his spells short and break him back in gently. Disappointed that Hales didn't get a sniff but maybe it's because he's a known variable. If they give Malan this series then I'd have no issue with Hales coming straight into an ashes squad if he fails.

No, I'm certain England have got the Ballance right (back in the Yorkshire squad).

I don't place too much importance in warm up games but this has just had me in tears:

However, the Windies will again be concerned about the bowling form of pace bowler Shannon Gabriel, who had sent down 20 no-balls in nine overs in the first innings, and added four more in the four overs he bowled in the final session, giving him combined match figures of 2-88 from 13 overs.

What the strawberry float

Not sure what paper this was in, but it made me laugh and seems appropriate for this thread. ;)

Cooky and Rooty

Such a shame to see what WI have been reduced to with the various squabbles from senior players.

Just checking up on the scores as had forgotten the test started today. Dear god, this Windies attack is utter dogshit. How do you go from Garner, Marshall, Croft, Ambrose et al to this?

It's a very sad state of affairs which cricket is all the poorer for.

If there's one thing Rooty can learn from Cook it's his bloody-minded level of concentration. There's no one stronger than Cook in world cricket in that regard.

There's a 300 here for the Chef if he can make it past the first hour tomorrow.
