Jake Ball is getting completely mullered by Gayle at the moment.

EDIT: You're welcome England. GR mockers strikes again.

Id have been quite happy for another 30 mins of that. This team need a big target to chase to test them. I was hoping they'd bat first.

Great way to finish off the summer. A big score for Roy, a big century for JB, and Root is the third fastest in terms of innings to 4000 ODI runs and he did it averaging 50.

Bollocks. Better hope Mark Wood is fit.

Steven Finn has been ruled out of England's Ashes tour after scans showed he has torn his left knee cartilage.

The pace bowler, 28, who was added to the squad following Ben Stokes' arrest, was injured in training on Thursday.

He will return to the UK in the next 48 hours to meet with specialists and decide whether he requires surgery.

England say they will announce a replacement in due course. Their first Test against Australia begins in Brisbane on 23 November.

Before that, the tourists play two warm-up matches against a Cricket Australia XI, the first of which is on Wednesday.

Speaking to BBC Sport before the result of Finn's scan was revealed, coach Trevor Bayliss had positive news about Moeen Ali's fitness however.

McGrath predicts Aussie Ashes whitewash... again
Off-spinning all-rounder Moeen, 30, missed training on Friday with a side injury, but Bayliss said he "will be fine".

He added Ali would play the final warm-up next week in Townsville.

Mason Crane will again deputise for Ali in Wednesday's warm-up game, which will be a day-night match as England prepare for the floodlit Test at the Adelaide Oval next month.

Stuart Broad is rested with Jake Ball and Craig Overton given the chance to press their claims for an Ashes start.

Dawid Malan is preferred to Gary Ballance at five with James Vince continuing at three.

Pomnishambles

Resting Broad is a mistake, it was quite evident he needs more time to adjust to the pitches over there from the first warm up match. Jimmy seems to have got into his rhythm already so I'd rest him to give Broad more time.

This is going to be a gooseberry fool show isn't it. I'm optimistically predicting a re-run of the India series last year.

The only positive at this point is we're not facing a really good Aussie side.

Still can’t wait for this to start. Sleep pattern is going to become even more broken and small than it is already.

What are your genuine expectations for this though? I don't see us winning a match. We might draw a couple.

I don’t think Australia are very good at the moment, but nor are England. Home advantage will be enough to give Australia the edge in the series as a whole, but I don’t think it’ll be a whitewash.

3-1 to Australia (with one draw).

I’d be surprised if there are any draws based on how incapable we are of shutting up shop. Going 3-2(England winning final test to make is seem close) or 4-1 to Aus but hopeful.

You just hope that they've learnt something from the India series last year. Playing test cricket you have to be able to suck it up and defend obstinately at times. You cannot continue to play shots when pitches are dangerous and wickets are falling.

Jake Ball just limped off in the tour match. They're reporting it as a sprained ankle but that phrase encompasses an irritatingly broad spectrum of injuries.

The ball must be hooping round corners in this England match at the moment?? I'm not sure the novelty/possible larger crowds with a day nighter can compensate for one session per day becoming a lottery due to the dew/twilight/ball.

Perhaps it puts JB's knock in the 3rd innings into perspective.

Woakes certainly appears to have found his form after the injury he sustained during the Champions Trophy. Fantastic news. It's only a warm up but if he's taking wickets on these slow dry surfaces he should be able to produce on the fast pitch that will be prepared at The Gabba.

Broad still looking toothless like he has for the majority of this year. Worrying.

India vs Sri Lanka in the first Test Match and a rain-affected first day. India close on 17-3. Lakmal has figures of 6 overs, 6 maidens, 3 for 0 :slol: Not the worst opening spell.

Good to see Cook/Stoneman/Malan/Root all firing.
