PostAsking someone out - Update
by Doug » Fri Nov 07, 2008 8:59 am

ok,

So there's this girl who works in the local coffee shop who I've decided to ask out.
I go in every morning, partly because I need my fix of coffee, partly because every day I think 'today is the day'.

This has been going on everyday for the past couple of weeks. We get on quite well, always have a good chat, a bit of a flirt and I leave smiling.

The problem is, I can't seem to man up and ask her out! Why!?

As i'm a young gun compared to some of you lot i'm after some sage advice. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Anyone got any advice/funny stories?

note, it may run in the family, it took my dad nearly a year to ask my mum out and she worked behind a bar.

Don't ask her out for a coffee, she's probably sick of the stuff. ;)

I asked a girl out who was working in a shop once, she just looked at her shoes. :fp:

If she chats with you and even flirts with you then you shouldn't really have anything to worry about, just go fir it, tell her you like talking to her and would like to have a longer/better chat someone else away from work.

Get drunk. That'll give you courage.

Just do it. You don't want to get sucked into the friendship zone, like I seem to have been. :fp:

Edit - To make it painfully clear. I went out with the girl I've had a thing for (for the last few months) last night. We saw Quantum of Solace. Before the film she was talking about going for a drink afterwards, then she jibbed it off and just had me drive her home. When we got to her house she barely said goodbye. It was lame, considering that less than a month ago she was giving me lingering, hugging goodbyes. Just make your intentions obvious and go for it.

Ask her what she is doing for lunch.

Then, when she reels off the menu, correct her and ask what she is specifically doing for lunch. Then you say you are going next door to a rival coffee shop.

This works for Ron Livingston, so you should be all right.

Go for it.
If she says no, you can always go to another coffe shop if you feel awkward.

Ask her what she's up to at the weekend/evening, just in conversation. If she's free then ask if she fancies doing something. Approach it more like you're asking a friend if they want to do something rather than the whole 'asking out for a date thing' and it'll be easier. It's also very unlikely she'll say no.

You only live once, my friend! Seize the day!

You'll either be going out with this lovely lady, or you'll know where you stand. You can't lose!

The longer you leave it Doug, the harder it'll get (no pun intended).

That's a bit unfair on people in wheelchairs isn't it?

Wait till Friday (so today then) and then just casually ask her what her plans are. If she says nothing say your going for a drink with a friend after work at the pub, and she's welcome to join ou both.

If she accepts, you can either invite a friend who then pissess off after one drink, or just tell her your mate had to leave early.

Job done.

Massive massive facepalm :fp: :fp: :fp:

I asked her plans for the weekend, she said "no plans" I still failed.
Time for some leverage, will go with a friend for coffee at lunch and if she's surving will ask her then while he finds a table.

Cheers guys.

Jeez...if you got that far then you were on easy street!

Go back, club her over the head and drag her back to your cave!
