Surely it'd be SOC instead of an off the shelf desktop GPU.

Like every Atari console since the 2800.

I remember reading about the Jaguar in CVG in 1994 and, despite looking naff, I thought it was really cool that a brand from the 1970s that I'd always associated with inventing videogames was going up against the likes of Sega, Nintendo and Sony.

23 years later I feel exactly the same :)

It's a nice idea from Atari from a sentimental, nostalgic point of view, but there's not enough room in the market as it is for dedicated home systems. Switch's existence alone highlights this. Nintendo are smart, they know peoples living rooms are dominated by Xbox and Playstation. Where would another home console, irrespective of manufacture, comfortably make it's mark?

Speaking as an avid gamer, who also games on PC, I simply can't - no scrap that - I simply don't need another gaming system under my tele. I'm more than covered.

That said the Atari Jaguar was the first system I experienced Doom on, so special place in my heart for that "doomed" console. 8-)

Yeah. I wore an Atari t-shirt today and not one woman was throwing herself at me for sex. Clearly there is zero market for anything Atari related.

Atari are an iconic gaming brand and logo, but nobody has given a gooseberry fool about them for over 20 years now. And they are not even the same company, it’s just another company that bought the name.

I can’t see this doing very well, unless there is something amazing about it that we haven’t yet been told about.

Design is very, very nice. But I can't think of a single Atari game I'd really want to play - I haven't even bothered to steal any for my Pi.

H.E.R.O. is great although I think I prefer the version on SG-1000.

Great call, Salads - and I didn't know that a version had appeared on the SG... I wish it had arrived for the Master System! It really is terrific and I had a lot of fun playing it on my C64.

Unfortunately, as an Activision title, I wonder if we'll see it on the Atari? River Raid, Pitfall et all may also face the same fate.

Most of the handful of 2600 games I like are from Activision, I love Kaboom too.

I loved Crystal Castles and Asterix/Taz on 2600 when I was a kid but I dread to think how they hold up now :dread:

Yeah, that is the danger, man. Totally superb at the time and we have such fond memories of them... but they often don't have the playability or lastability that we're now accustomed to. They shall forever stand in the pantheon of greats, though :datass: .

Do people really want to play games now that look exactly the same as they did on the console almost 40 years ago? For nostalgic reasons it seems like a good idea but the reality is that if I bought it, I'd probably turn it on, try a couple of games and think "that looks gooseberry fool" before packing it away in the garage, never to see the light of day again.

Yes?
