It would be a big deal no doubt and cause a fuss but honestly it wouldn't be any worse for anyone entering Wales on the M4 in reality. Not that I feel it needs to happen as the level of surveillance is much higher in the UK than most of Europe.

So they knew he was inadmissible, and were going to deport him, and they had a strong suspicion he was going to do something but rather than act they just decided to lay low. Brilliant.

If they really did think that they could have at least arrested him on the grounds of sneaking into the country and just kept him somewhere away from both the public, and from radicalising influences until they got his papers and could deport him.

He didn't sneak into Germany though. He literally just travelled there from Italy (where he illegally came in, probably through the early migrant routes from North Africa in 2011) where it looks like he served 4 years for arson shortly after and wasn't deported. Then thanks to Schengen he was able to bugger off to Germany and murder 12 people.

I guess he couldn't be detained when his asylum bid failed as Merkel was feeling compassionate.

Remember guys, one 'bears' something. To bare means to get naked, and I'm afraid Merkel hasn't got the figure to pull that off.

And there's obviously no way that, had unrealistically strict borders been in place, he couldn't have simply gotten a truck and done exactly the same thing in an Italian Xmas market instead.

I know Australia gets loads of migrants coming in and seeking asylum and rather than let them into the country they tow them to Christmas Island or Naru or somewhere else and then check their backgrounds and only then if they get approved are they allowed onto Australian soil. I recall camps being set up in Greece that seem to be similair, but I take it people can just leave those whenever they want since they are already in the EU, right?

Seems a similair system would work best in these cases, but maybe the sheer number of migrants into Europe would make that more difficult to do. I know in Australia's case a lot of the migrants have been complaining about living conditions, but it seems like a much better solution than just letting them go and hoping they leave once the deportation order comes in.

Pretty sure they are kept in fenced areas, not fed or watered properly and families are broken up in to different areas

Closed borders would not stop people like this, it would likely not even slow them down.

If he's been shot dead, the ability to travel between EU countries didn't save him from punishment in the end.

Don't be silly Jawa. The magic of passport control would stop all evildoers in their tracks. We would enter a brave new world where terrorists were unable to travel but ordinary folk could move around with barely any hassle. In the same time as it takes you to use a credit card you could be across a border safe in the knowledge that nasty people would be utterly flummoxed by having to show a little book with their photo in.

Back before the evil Schengen, Europe was a place of peace and stability and no naughty men ever crossed from one country to another. The good old days.
