Still not started this...I am around 70 odd hours into Fallout 4 though.

I believe that Lagamorph has started this on PS4 - a few of the early trophies have popped up on the activity feed - but no comment here in GRcade yet...

I'm only 12 hours in but I've just reached the area with the thunderstorms, past the jaw or whatever it's called (the dried up docks). I've driven back to the starting area as I'm just taking in the scenery and collecting scraps and parts for my outposts at a leisurely pace. I fire it up for an hour every few days so I'm not in any rush to see the credits. It's just cool to load it up every few days, receive my scrap, upgrade my car a bit and roll out with my new upgrades.

Got it on rental from Boomerang at the moment as a bonus game.
Haven't played much, but so far seems pretty decent. Can't see myself bothering with too much side content mind.

I stopped playing due to other games but I'm enjoying this enough to finish it and possibly platinum it.

I've just completed Pink Eye's zone and I'm about to move into Deep Friah's area. I've got one or two things outstading in earlier zones but I think I can only complete them once I've progressed further with the main mission.

I have Max fully levelled up - complete with the biggest beard and a bandana - and I'm riding around with Chumbucket in a gold-coloured mean machine. The red colour offers more fire protection but the gold is just way more bling. Yeah, I'm totally rockin' the wasteland :datass: .

Bro got this for Christmas but yet to play it. Just got a PS4 so got about 5 games as well as about 5 X1 in the pile :fp:

Might give it a quick bash tonight to get a flavour at least, looks great.

This has slipped under my radar. Is it worth getting?

Well...I am really enjoying it but I don't think it would suit all tastes.

+ Massive game world
+ The environments and general design are excellent
+ Gameplay is a fun mixture of driving, fighting (Batman style) and collecting
+ The photo mode is the best that I've used

- The gameplay could be repetitive for some people; it doesn't vary that much
- If you don't like searching and collecting then it may not float your boat

I've championed the game over the past few months, particularly as it had so little publicity (launching on the same day as MGS V :fp: ), and I'm still having fun with it. I'd rate the game as 8/10 and I'm reasonably tough on awarding high marks i.e. the 8 means a terrific game and not "average" as in the modern review scale.

Adding to jawa's plus points, you can pick it up for fairly cheap too. My copy turned up today, cost me £20 from an eBay seller.

Initial impressions are good! I really like how...crunchy it is (both the driving and the fighting) and have already taken a couple of deliberate spills to try out the photo mode.

It seems quite a basic open world, but I love wandering about desert wasteland environments for some reason (see Fallout 3, Mars in Destiny) and this fits the bill.

Cheers for the recommendation, jawa!

I'm glad you're enjoying it, dude. Once you break out into different areas, the landscape chanegs quite a lot and you need to start considering the best tyres to use according to the terrain. I'm still playing and I'm currently in (I think) the final area. I'm levelled Max up to Road Warrior Level 52!

Gandalf, if you're interested then the game can be picked up (on PS4 or XBO) for under £20 at ShopTo and Amazon.

Sound. Thanks for the details, guys. I may have to pick this up after I finish Tomb Raider.

I played it for a little bit longer on Saturday and the map exploded with markers and stuff to go and see, a load of bad guys have started chasing me and I now have nitro boosts so I take back my comment about the map being a bit basic!

I think Videogamer described it the best - it's the best 7/10 game ever. Individually each element is pretty derivative;

Batman melee combat? Check
Slightly unnecessary level-up mechanics to pad resource gathering? Check
Map with loads of icons to tidy up? Check

However it's visually stunning and the combat feels rough and weighty, both in-car and on foot. It comes together into something that's a lot of fun, but you have definitely played it before in some way or another.

Also if any game was crying out for the nemesis system from Shadow of Mordor it's this; you're beating up some thugs when BallShaft the Dick-mangler storms round a corner, metal plate in his face from the last beating you gave him in response to his promotion after getting a lucky thunderstick on you a while ago.

Yeah, the map really does fill up - there are loads of different locations and, as you progress (find different zones, use the balloons to spot new locations, accept new missions), even more things appear.

I'm just approaching the one hundred-hour mark and, for me, that's almost unheard of. I find myself having to see and collect everything... it just all clicks together.

I think I'd go along with that; sometimes a 7 is better than an 8 ;-).

Definitely.

I'm also finding it to be a really relaxing game to play, at the moment anyway. Just chillin' with Chumbucket, driving about, running things over, harpooning people out the driver's seat. Bliss.

Even wandering about the bases kicking the crap out of folk is nice and satisfying.

I've taken down my first convoy and 'top dog', the Magnum Opus is starting to look rather spiffy :)

EDIT: Forgot that I ended up in a storm earlier too. Holy crap, that was intense!

This game sounds really good! Though I need to finish Tomb Raider first.

Chum is definitely of my favourite videogame sidekicks (i.e. alongside Fawkes from Fallout 3). Some of the lines he comes out with about maintaining the Opus are great! I agree that the harpoon gun is ace, too. When attacking a camp, I usually try and harpoon as many enemies as I can before even entering the site.

NBK wrote:I've taken down my first convoy and 'top dog', the Magnum Opus is starting to look rather spiffy :)

Nice work, NBK! It feels good to take down the top dogs :-). As you take over more camps and complete missions, you unlock more car upgrades. I've just got Chummy's ultimate wrench which reduces repair times by 70%.

NBK wrote:EDIT: Forgot that I ended up in a storm earlier too. Holy crap, that was intense!

The storms are really cool. Sometimes they just last for a minute but other times they go on for a while. If you retrieve and open the loot containers that appear in a storm (there is nearly always three of 'em) you get circa 100 scrap per pick-up. I'm in the (I think) final zone and it has Black Storms. I saw one coming and dived into an underground camp for cover :-).
