This was supposed to be pretty good, right?

I really should get around to watching the film first, though.

Yep, it's a good game and pretty much a bargain at that price, Knoyleo. You don't need to have seen the film to enjoy the game; styling and characters are similar but whichever one you see/play first won't spoil the other.

Cool, thanks for that. I'll be having that, then.

Y'know... I gotta agree, Trelliz. I hugely enjoyed playing the game and, when I completed it, one of my first thoughts was along the lines of "Dang! Why can't there be some DLC expansion? Every other game has it!". But... it was already ace, lengthy and had a decent storyline. Nothing else is needed; it's a great adventure and, as in Max's world, not all things have happy endings.

I'm always of the opinion that sequels should improve on the original. There were a few things about Mad Max that could be made better, I'd love another product that fixes some of things that I didn't quite like about the first game. I think Mad Max has more potential, and I would love to see that fully realised.

Yes, sequels should improve on the original, but coming from a position of loving the game, Fury Road etc. I don't think Mad Max has more potential. It does what it does well but it is pretty one-note. If the sequel was more of the same with whatever it was you didn't like fixed it would get critically hammered more than the first one did for being repetitive. If max went somewhere like what little water remains or a jungle or some gooseberry fool it would get hammered for being too far removed from what made the brand's iconic image. Enjoy it and remember it fondly rather than draw it out to die; its better to burn out than to fade away.

This game is amazing, it's like everything I ever wanted the Fallout games to be.

Only issue I'm having so far is the lack of a manual save feature. I've found myself a couple of times roaming the wasteland, chasing down bandits, then chewing off more than I can chew and getting killed, only to find myself back at the stronghold with nothing to show for my previous progress.

The combat, the vehicles, the upgrade system, the rewards for lowering threat in the regions, all of it comes together really nicely to make you feel like you're making real progress. I'm already feeling quite attached to the Magnum Opus, and can't wait to get it even more powered up.

If you finish the story can you then free roam to complete side quests etc?

I finished this last week and bloody loved it. Its made going back to Fallout 4 very difficult as Mad Max is just so fast paced. There is something incredibly addictive about taking down strongholds and getting all the scrap.

Such a shame that once you hit end game it doesn't make sense to continue. I thought I'd spend months 100% finishing it but I didn't feel compelled once I finished the main quest.

My main gripe with the game is you can't jump freely!

I loved upgrading the car in this. It was a lot of work to do, but the payoff was really noticeable. I found it very rewarding.

PC port was excellent as well. It was very well optimized and had a lot of graphics option. I wish all PC ports were like this one.

I may be misunderstanding but, when on foot, you can press X (on the PS4) to jump, Slayer?

Definitely, Squinty - I loved how the parts made such a visual and handling difference to the vehicle.

Another aspect that made the game for me was Chumbucket. He is definitely one of the stand-out side-kicks in gaming; his quips were excellent and brought a sense of humour to the game that balanced out Max's dour approach.

X on PS4 makes you roll, one of the shoulder buttons lets you do a little hop but I forget which one and at no point does the came tell you about it.

Salads is bang on the money - it's L2 to jump. Slayer, you can check all of the button settings by going into the game menu, selecting Settings and then Button Maps.

Thanks must of missed it as the tutorial seemed to suggest you can only do it the yellow edges.

You can jump wherever, but it's completely useless - he sort of hops a bit which isn't enough to get up anywhere of note compared to all the yellow stuff.

Yeah, it's largely useless but handy if you step into an ankle deep hole and can't get out of it without fast travelling... which happened to me more than a few times :fp:

Is there much reason to do the Death Runs? I tried one a couple of times where it gives you vehicles to choose from rather than your own, and I wasn't a big fan of it. Will I be missing out on any big rewards?

Not really, Knoyleo. Once you've successfully finished a Death Run then you can refuel there but, beyond that, there isn't a great deal to encourage you to complete the races in all of the different vehicles. Unless you're a trophy-hunter, in which case some of the trophies demand that you beat the races in a variety of the different car types.

I've been everywhere and collected everything in the game and I thought I'd be in with a shout of claiming my first-ever Platinum trophy, but I find those race challenges too frustrating.

Cool, I was worried I might be missing out on big scrap hauls or something. I might give those a miss for now, or so long as I can tolerate Chum Bucket telling me I should do them to "gain the favour of the gods" every time I leave a stronghold. :x
