There was a man named Max he lived in a wastland and was stripped of his wheels with not even a penny to his name
but oddly his game ran like silk and 60fps and his game was complete.

There was a man named Bruce he was a billionaire with a tank and a jet he lived in modern times
but oddly his game was a giant turd with a 34.99 season pass and was capped at 30fps.

Go figure.

EDIT: One of the base upgrades generates scrap while you're not playing the game - get that first.

Or the cleanup crew one which saves you having to get out and gather it all every time you blow up a car

EDIT: Had a proper storm, was amazing but then my game crashed. Think I might have the weather effects up too high.
Nothing in any other game comes close to that as an experience though

How is the scrap generated when you're not playing? It says 'requires internet connection' which made me think I'd have to leave my PS4 on standby or something dumb.

And yes, I had my first storm last night too. I was just on my way driving somewhere else when suddenly storm warning. It was awesome. I guess it's semi-emergent semi-scripted gameplay? But it feels like because of that it can be super cool while also being unique and different every time.

I also had a tornado/dust devil strike while on foot at a scavening location. It literally picked up the enemies and threw them through the air towards me, so that I could still counter them out of the air. All kinds of cool. (It then picked up their bodies and literally tore them to pieces :D )

I believe it generates the scrap anyway but you need to be online to collect it. I got it yesterday so will boot it up and see how it works. I imagine as some anti-cheat mechanism to stop you hacking the generating algorithm and have it give you a billion scrap per hour or something.

I'm having a lot of fun with this. The game feels great to play; I love how the combat, both in car and on foot, feels "chunky" - the smashes and thunks pack quite a punch. The environments look terrific and it's brilliant to see the how the combination of of wind, dirt and rocky terrain can deliver such an enjoyable playground.

I got it a couple of dust-ups with other vehicles and experienced smashes and the marvelous uses that the harpoon gun can be put to. I was even chortling quite a bit as I had to run around my car evading psycho drivers whilst Chumbucket was putting out flames :-).

This is the most I've enjoyed a game so far this year. Early days, of course, but it feels great; I'm eager to play and discover more about this wasteland.

Digital Foundry -

From what we've sampled so far, Mad Max is a solid multi-platform release across both consoles. Frame-rates appear stable under stressful conditions, while the level of graphical accomplishment appears practically identical, with the Xbox One not only achieving a native 1080p presentation but also delivering slightly better performance overall. Of course, we'll be taking a closer look at the game in our upcoming Face-Off, but for now the Xbox One game nudges slightly ahead in performance terms, though in practice there's really not much to separate the two versions at all, with both serving up an excellent experience.

Instead, it falls to the PC game to potentially bring about some dramatic differences. Initial impressions are positive, revealing that 1080p60 is definitely on the cards at maximum settings without requiring the latest cutting-edge GPUs. Tantalisingly, this also opens up the possibility of gameplay at ultra high resolutions beyond the current full-HD standard seen on console - something we'll be investigating in the final Face-Off.

Yep, the game certainly does look lush.... or, rather, dirty and destroyed... which I guess is a compliment. It's a shame that it arrived at the same time as Metal Gear as I suspect this must have impacted sales. Those folk who are able to pick it up will probably be surprised at how decent it is.

Can you imagine if it had come out the same time as the movie? Would have sold bucket loads.

Still pushing through this, i've been doing my own thing rather than advancing the story; clearing up the map mostly. I've got the harpoon that can pull off wheels which is great for dealing with smaller cars, although it makes capturing them difficult.

Had my first proper storm, and the visual effects are stunning; you really can't see anything and the sound is amazing. Managed to grab a few crates as well.

It really is a lotta fun, I've still got the basic harpoon but it's great for tearing down scarecrows and pulling drivers outta cars :-). I've captured three or four vehicles and driven 'em back to the base so that I can use them whenever required. Such a cool game.

So my adventures continue - wish i'd been taking screenshots as this game is really beautiful at times. They've managed to make different areas stand out in terms of colour and terrain, making it much more varied than just open nothingness. I realised that there's only one colour scheme worth taking from one of the regional bosses; the red primer which gives you damage reduction against fire. None of the other colours have any gameplay effects, so why bother with any other?

I really wish they hadn't released this at the same time as MGS5.

Must remember to pick it up in the future when it's a bit cheaper, looks ace.

One of my main gripes is that the bosses are all the same - a big dude in a gimp mask with a big hammer; you just dodge under their main attack then give them a kicking. The variation comes in the way you get to them, but it would have been nice to have some variety in how they fight. Also clearing the minefields is a pain in the arse.

Everything is now leading to Gastown, which gives it a real sense of anticipation as it's been visible from almost everywhere; somewhere you know you're going but remains out of reach for a long time.

...and done. That was quite a game, although unfortunately it suffers from the same problem as Far Cry 2 - it opens strongly but then is bloated and meanders and wanders around a LOT in the middle before snapping back together for the end. I've done pretty much all the fun stuff I'm prepared to do - killing the regional bosses, nailing the convoys etc. I'm not interested in getting all the scavenge sites or any of that, although I may dabble every now and again if I feel like hooning around the desert. Hopefully there'll be some DLC of some sort, even if it's something as simple as convoy challenges to give the game some longevity.

I've only just noticed this... wow, Trelliz, you certainly steamed through it!

Trelliz wrote:...killing the regional bosses, nailing the convoys etc.

I beat my first boss man last night and it was ace :toot: . After taking out the sniper and ripping down the doors, I entered an enemy camp and there was a team of six or seven guys that I had to take on. Brilliantly, a dust storm blew up during my investigation of the camp and I had to take shelter under a metal hoarding. Whilst I was sheltering, I could see the "spotter-on-a-rope" guy (the rabble-rouser) being battered around by the storm. I nipped out and used the gun to take him down! I think I have now cleared the first (Jeet's) territory. Just seventeen to go!

I haven't taken on a convey yet; I've stuck to fighting just one or two cars at a time. I love to use my car's harpoon gun to take enemy drivers out of their machines! I'm a bit stuck at the moment as I don't have any bullets for my car's sniper gun. How do I find replacements?

Trelliz wrote:...I'm not interested in getting all the scavenge sites or any of that...

I have a "must clean up" approach and I love trying to get all of the scrap! There is a camp where one item of scrap remains so I'll have to go back again and have a good search.

I'd be keen on more content although there don't appear to be any signs that it will appear. Perhaps new territories could be introduced with additional characters and missions.

I'm glad I decided to go for this game - I'm really enjoying it.

You should try taking out all the guys and leaving the War Crier alive - he sits there really awkwardly saying some great stuff afterwards:

"So...err, you need someone who can bang a drum and make a lot of noise?"

"Oh, there's a rule, don't kill the war crier. Not sure if you're aware."

"I didn't mean any of that stuff I said."

I'll give it a go, Trelliz :-). Would you have any idea how I can get some bullets for the car's sniper gun? I guess I just need to search camps for 'em?

EDIT: Oh, and even though I'm only really a short way into the game, Chumbucket is definitely one of my favourite videogame companions  .

Snipers drop them, put more Griffa tokens into the scavenging upgrade, that'll increase what you pick up. Once you've built the ammo tables in strongholds you get ammo refills when you go back to them. I rarely used the rifle tbh, I preferred pulling stuff down with the harpoon.

CDkeys.com has this for £8.98 if you use the 5% coupon that you get for liking the site's Facebook page. I decided to buy it at that price as I'd been intrigued by the game's reception and I want to work out my new internet connection some more. I would end up seeing this price just as Ubisoft finally sends my beta key for Rainbox Six :slol:
