Saw this the other day. Thought it was pretty good, and put the plot convolution down to me not having seen some of the previous films. Sounds like some of it was just poorly written though, which is a shame.

Yes.

Tomous wrote:She wasn't saying she was a monster because she was infertile. She was saying she was a monster because of the steps that had been taken to remove human elements of herself, to make her a better assassin. Not because she couldn't have kids which misses the point of what she was saying in my opinion.

This.

Skarjo wrote:Which, to be fair, is strawberry floating awful writing.

Yeah, in all fairness, it wasn't great.

I had exactly the same thought process.

Proves he's a goodie. Also it was funny.

Finally got round to watching it yesterday at a 4:45 showing which was great because the Odeon in Liverpool One was basically dead and empty. Enjoyed it, more so than the first Avengers movie but it wasn't a patch on Winter Soldier (Which I'd watched again on Monday before going to see Ultron)

Wasn't really a fan of Hawkeye in the first movie but liked him in this and thought the 'safe house' added to that. I swear when I watched trailers for this, Ultron sounded more menacing in the trailers than in the actual movie..

Quite a good interview with Whedan including the ending, friction with Marvel, Spider-Man and what the cut scene with Loki was about

Just walked out of this an hour in. Only the second film I have ever walked out of! Far too snarky for me to the point it was annoying, Ultron was crap and not even slightly menacing and they managed to make all of the avengers a bunch of assholes. The jokes were strawberry floating terrible. Mega disappointed, probably more so than I was with the comic!

I appreciate some of you will say it gets better further in, but I nearly fell asleep after the opening scene with all the bollocks with the sceptre and the twins and Ultron and some shitty robots.

One man's opinion and all that.

She was sterilised so that she wouldn't have any children and so that a) could never be compromised by having them captured and used as collateral and b) that natural loving bond would never be experienced by her and thus making it more likely she would be a more efficient and inhuman assassin. They removed a natural nurturing ability and trained her to kill. Hence she is a monster. Irreparably changed with no way of ever fully becoming a normal, loving woman. Because of the physical acts upon her, done by her and the same psychologically.

I thought it would aid her as a spy, being able to shag around without getting pregnant etc

Making an argument where one doesn't really exist - GRCADE since 08.

You're removing one facet. One. A facet that has an integral impact on a woman's emotional and nurturing developmental milestones. Coupled with all the other training and techniques.

I have to be honest, I wasn't in the most patient of moods as it was a late showing. I guess that's a stricter test of how good a film is!

If it was a 2pm showing, I'm sure I would have stayed.

I'd just argue that it's a really strawberry floating bad line of dialogue.

I still think Spidey 1-3 Sam Raimi version pisses over the "done too soon" reboot films.

Spider-Man 2 is among the best films of its genre - easily in the top five superhero films. Spider-Man 3 is among the most disappointing.

At least Spidey 3 was hilariously and memorable bad, the worst parts of both Amazing films were just plain awful.

Spidey 2 though, the best Marvel film outside the MCU
