Hey everyone,

Since AYA? started, it has become the go-to for forum games and both hilarity and drama on GR. We have seen some of the biggest conspiracies on GR, utter fuck-ups and amazing misdirection. But what are your favourite moments ever? I thought it'd be nice to have a thread to document and save the best moments of all time to be preserved for all time.

What are your greatest moments?

If you can remember the game it happened in, list that too and we will see if we can get some kind of definitive timeline going at some point.

I only got really into AYA? once. Was there one set on an island? I seem to remember being up for the lynch like five times in a row or something before finally getting the chop, and saying I'd throw sand in people's eyes. I might have been a seer.

I think that was the only one I played as well, it was either the first one on here or the last one on old GR, I cant really remember. I was elected mayor in it though, a special mayor too, I got a shotgun to kill someone, I think I shot Denster, but whoever I shot they were a villager.

So apparently, according to a post I wrote in 2009 (!!!) I survived eight lynch votes despite being a wolf :datass:

Probably missing a bunch of stuff but here's what I've quickly rattled off:

I’ll offer some moments and some summaries of each game I remember.

AYAW I (2006) – The first game. It was new to just about everyone that played. Omo (seer) guided the villagers to a narrow victory but was killed a couple of days before the end. The funniest moment for me was when Robbo (werewolf) killed Corazon (seer). We later found out that the only reason Robbo targeted Cora was because Cora called him a dickhead in another thread.

AYAW II (2006) – The first glorious wolves victory where only one wolf perished. This game also saw the Vigilante role introduced, although the lucky recipient, Jango, declined to use his bullets which ironically made him the best vigilante to play for years. This is the only game I didn’t play in so I can’t offer too much insight here, but I do remember that the Villagers lynched their Seer.

AYAW III (2007) – Herbi is the strawberry floating Alpha. That is all. If you weren’t there then it’s difficult to put into perspective the reaction to learning that the recently lynched Herbi, was but a simple Villager. Pages and pages followed of mass confusion. The game concluded with a relatively comfortable Villager victory. Also can’t forget Mockmaster beginning the trend of downright TERRIBLE vigilantes: he killed both Aaron and JK on the very first night!

AYAW IV: The Islands (2007) – Albear was lynched for the Alpha Bear connection. Aaronayl1 and Ooh Ee, Ooh Ah Ah, Ting Tang, Walla Walla Bing Bang. And Skippy evading the lynch for something crazy like 6 days in a row. The game started off in brutal fashion for the wolves. Skippy, Hexx, jimbojango all perished within the first week and Ario fell victim to Tiarny’s Lone Wolf role which was new. This left myself and Pred to face almost FIFTY innocents. That as a pair we got down to 12 players remaining was a miracle. Tiarny was the Lone Wolf. Rapper also famously accused me of being a werewolf and nobody took him seriously… :slol:

AYAW V (2008) – This was the spaceship version of the game with the Bridge of commanders. An easy wolf victory. Moment of the game was probably Denster blowing Parksey’s brains out when his ‘sensetalk’ was in full flow.

AYAB (2009) – The first game not to be hosted by DML and Tiarny did a great job of it. The most controversial aspect for the portion of the game where the dead returned to the present for a few hours and drastically changed the course of the game. Also that moment where Huw shot jiggles who was Good Admin Garth. Also Chalkitdown coming into the thread and asking why he had received like 70 PMs about the game

AYAW VI (2010) – No wolves. strawberry floater.

AYAV (2011) – I think this was the game that featured the very first successful Vigilante kill when DangChris Xd shot Parksey who was by then a confirmed Vamp. This was also the first (and only?) game where the Alpha/The Count got to choose his pack.

The Saboteur (2011) - The first game to be held under alt-accounts and Denster was still offed straight away. This was also the first game where the leader of the minority had the ability to recruit delegates throughout the game.

AYAM (2013) – Falsey causing StayDead (who was a The Godfather type role) to melt down and get killed on Day 1. The Mayorship was monopolised between a few people who were protected and it made for a pretty dull game. I don’t remember too much else about this one other than it was set on a train and the incredibly sad and sour ending it had.

MMAYAV (2014) – The vamps were on a hot streak until one fateful night when the Vampbusters turned the entire game around with not one, but two successful vigilante kills. Probably the most unlikely and incredible turnaround seen so far.

AYAW15 (2015) – Probably best remembered for an Alpha Wolf actually throwing a fellow wolf to the Villagers to try and convince them that he was pro-village. And it worked very successfully as it ended up being the closest game our community has seen. That was probably THE moment of the game. That and Derek offering to leave if Parksey, Mini E and Zellery weren’t wolves. Which they weren’t.

AYI (2015) – Moggy’s take on the game. Dan’s revelation of the role names being in alphabetical order was probably the stand out moment.

The wolves turning on fellow wolf, CommShep and having him killed was funny.

Easy wolf win. Can't remember what year though.. Might'be been 200....8/9?

Are You A Bluehat was hands-down the greatest one of these.

It had everything. A rogue AI. Unrequited love between man and machine. Subplots within subplots.

There was a character off-forum going by Daedalus that was trying to run things in the early stages. I still have no idea who it was.

After being a fairly active member on the old Gamesradar forums (6k posts y'all 8-) ) I was no more than a lurker on the shiny new GRcade. Until, that is, DML's famous wolf-less AYAW, which was the first game of its type that I followed. I didn't play, but I'm pretty sure I've signed up for most of them since, and found myself alarmingly addicted each time. I did pretty well in the early games. I was mayor twice in Sykes' AYAV, the first time nominating vampire Luke but failing to kill him, the second time lynching Count Wiggles but failing to actually spot the reasons why. My addiction began in earnest with the Saboteur, when under the guise of 'Sunweb' I spent hours compiling statistics on each player. Other than being very active I didn't play a major role in this game beyond that of guinea pig; twice I was put up for lynch next to an Accomplice, with the intent of us block-voting to lynch the other guy. So I suppose I was at least trusted.

I was away for Are You A Moderator, but came back for Mori's AYAV, and I doubt very much I'll ever top this game for memories. It was alt accounts again, and I wanted to try and remain under-the-radar for fear of the most active players being offed by the vamps. The timing worked out well for me, and I managed to prove my role in time (although it unfortunately took Dana's death to do so). I think the vamps bought my semi-bluff of remaining bullets (I still had one for a while, but I never told them how many) and didn't go for me after that until we'd taken them all out bar Moggy. The only shame is that I technically didn't win as Moggy decided to off me as soon as he was the last man standing.  The Vampbusters' turnaround is definitely the defining moment of these games for me.

I decided to try my hand at running a game after that, although an intentionally-smaller-scale one - I was expecting the village to either win or kill everyone in the first few days. I wasn't expecting it to be so much work for such a short game! Bar two almost fuck-ups - I announced one person as dead when actually they were the killer (I hastily edited the post) and then forgot one death and had to announce it later - I enjoyed Are You A Vigilante very much, and I think the environment of Bas-Ler will form the background of any future AYA game I might run.

I didn't do much in Drummy's 2015 AYAW, I was killed fairly early on, so I was back to watching on from the sidelines. What there was to watch made for cracking entertainment and DML very nearly pulled off an audacious win. My main memory of this game is StayDead's approach being so overwhelmingly dominating and massively beneficial to the wolves, that almost everyone who'd already died was hoping for him to be killed off whether he was a villager or not. So much so, that Karl ran a side-game (AYA Cyclone?) with the sole purpose, I suspect, of scratching his 'must kill Qikz' itch.

Moggy's AY Infected was actually my first ever from-the-start special role, but I think my being a Conspiracy Theorist (hence my advocating of lynching the gamerunner as opposed to any actual in-game players) got missed by most in the ensuing shitstorm of 'The Alphabetical Theory'. Whether this helped the human cause or not is hard to tell as it meant killing the vigis became an absolute must, and had the survivors not caught on that the Beta role existed in time, it would have definitely been seen as a mistake to even bring it to light at all, but I couldn't have known at the time - I never actually proposed that the list might have been in alphabetical order, I only spotted that the list was different to the original and so possibly tied to the role list in some way. A bit disappointed I never got chance to use my vote rigger power, too.

So my overall record, then:

"Are You A" Format

PSAYAV: win
The Saboteur: win
MMAYAV: technical solo loss but epic Vampbuster win
AYA Vigi: N/A
AYAW '15: loss
AYI: loss

Other Games

The Advantage: loss
GGGC X: 2nd
I Love You, But You're Dead: N/A
GoalGetters: win
Co-Pilot: N/A
Moggy's TOTW: 3rd

It's a cruel mistress. In the games where I've been more effective (IMO) I've lost more often than won.

The things that come to mind for me when I think of these games are vigilantes shooting Denster, even if it doesn’t happen we are all waiting for it. Staydead is always a highlight, his crazy way of playing and the use of phrases like “pro-village” are always hilarious.

My first game was AYA Moderator, the one on the train. I had so much fun that I have been hooked on them ever since. I still haven’t forgiven DML for throwing me out of that first game I played though. Curls broke the rule by posting his role PM, C.Y.N.T.H.I.A was away or was inexperienced and unsure what to do and asked DML to deal with it. He decided the best way was to throw two random players out of the game and so me and DayumChris were thrown out. :x :x :x
