We got lucky at the end. I really expected all the infected to just block vote in the last 30 minutes yesterday

There was only, what... 1 or 2 days left? It wouldn't have mattered too much if you have yourselves away like that at the point in the game

I also lied slightly, in case Errkal wasn't the Alpha :slol:

That was something I was worried about the other day when I had my plan, which is went I didn't announce it until after I was voted in.

The infected really could have easily won it, we got lucky, but that's not to try and take it away from your BID0; you played well even though I never really trusted you, but I never trusted anyone. It always seemed the amount of actives was the same amount of infected which striked me as worrying. I was wrong, thankfully.

As Denster has said, the alphabetical thing made it fairly difficult/impossible for special roles near the bottom of the list to survive this game as they were obviously targets for the infected. I was infected the day before Karl was killed off, Irene was infected the day before. Was saying whatever was necessary behind the scenes to try and survive 24 hours at a time but never stood a chance. I wouldn't have believed my own lies!

Errkal and the remaining infecteds dropped the ball at the end there by the sound of it :fp:

I should say that I, and presumably the other infected, never knew who else was infected, which made an infected block vote almost impossible because we obviously wouldn't block vote against an almost inevitable lynch without being certain that the lynchee was infected, and even then I doubt I would have gone against the village for anyone other than the alpha. I obviously suspected Errkal might be the alpha once it came out, but without any organisation among the infected I wasn't going to stick my neck out in case I was wrong.

That was probably the biggest mistake of the infected. Sure being ignorant of each other meant that we weren't able to give ourselves away by defending other infected intentionally, but the lack of at least a central figure who all the infected knew and took instruction from made any co-ordinated play impossible. Karl had that role for a while, but once he died Errkal as far as I'm aware didn't bother to replace him.

I think having a cure of some sort would have been a cool thing to give to someone as a role so people who were turned could be brought back again.

I know there was an event where we had to somehow get an impossible number of people together in a few days :slol:

But after that the infected could have formed a giant trust circle themselves while the regular humans couldn't, Luckily that didn't happen.

I can't believe you wasn't infected. I was so sure of it in those last few days

I had a few emails from Karl as a spokesman for the alpha but I didn't hear anything after he died.

I was surprised first, but it made sense. Errkal didn't need to infect me, since no one would believe I wasn't infected. strawberry floating genius, really.

Thanks for all of the appreciation of the game, I am glad people enjoyed it!

As the game went on, you were all coming up with theories that I was wishing that I had built into the game. Dan's conspiracy theory that the way to win the game was to lynch me was genius, that would have been a great twist.

I also liked the idea that Cheeky Devlin had a "Prophet" role, that could have been interesting.

One of my original ideas was for each infected to be able to infect each night, that would have been a very short game though as the exponential growth of infected would have been really hard to stop!

BID0 wrote:I think having a cure of some sort would have been a cool thing to give to someone as a role so people who were turned could be brought back again.

I did think of putting that in, but figured it would either be useless (if the infected were not talking to each other) or game breaking (if somebody turned back and knew who the Alpha/Beta was). The idea of a group feeling safe in their knowledge/protection circle was put in with the immune players, who then lost half of the immunity of the group. Unfortunately the alphabetical list fuckup ruined that.

I think overall, ignoring the player list, the game was pretty good and worked roughly as I hoped it would. It was definitely a game that I was wishing I was playing instead of running!

After all his moaning over the years, it turned out that Denster is the most trigger happy vigi in history. ;)

It would have been fun to tell the infected that they could kill and take over from the Alpha, but not tell them which of the infected was the Alpha. That could have been a bloodbath.

I'm also really surprised all the Infected weren't all connected and in contact. Can't think of a reason for that to be the case.

This is probably the oddest AY? game I've played. Couldn't really get into it but in hindsight was still a great game with interesting mechanics that all worked well. The whole alphabet list put me off it quite a bit - interest I never fully regained - but as it didn't have a massive positive or negative impact on either side (overall), wasn't actually as game-breaking as I initially believed.

Congrats to BID0 too on effectively winning the Humans the game, excellent stuff. Can't really take any credit myself, seeing as my biggest contribution was killing our best chance of swinging the game in our favour. Really not sure why Errkal completely outed himself yesterday, and even more confused with the fellow Infected for failing to save him. Bizarre.

Also a massive thanks for Moggy for running it. As I've mentioned, the whole list thing was unfortunate but didn't actually ruin the game which was good. I'll apologise again for initially moaning too. I think I was expecting a AYA? game in which it stuck to the basic structure and we figured out people's roles based on good detective work rather than a tiny slip-up from the GM, hence my gripe with people getting excited over potentially winning after noticing a mistake in the initial set-up. As it turned out the game was played in a different way, but it didn't necessarily make the game itself any 'worse' - just different.

GG everyone!

Cheers. I won't pretend that I didn't gooseberry fool myself when the list fuckup was discovered, but looking at the rules and roles I had set, I didn't think it was completely game breaking and so carried on. It was unfortunate and strawberry floated a few people over, but (as you say) the game was never supposed to be played in a "classic" AYI way, the roles were always going to come out once the infected managed to infiltrate the specials.

I was disappointed (more with myself for not explaining things properly) when some people were moaning that they were just "normal" humans, if there was ever a AYI game where being a normal human was important it was this one! And at any point in the game you could have ended up with a role.

I was also upset when it seemed everyone was moaning about the alphabetical list breaking the game and when I was being accused of making things up as I went along. I reacted badly there and do apologise if I got too pissy with people. I was having a bad day and the accusations got to me, my bad! Of course it wasn't everyone moaning about it and I think (and hope!) that people soon realised that the game wasn't broken and that I hadn't just "made things up". Obviously at the time I couldn't explain fully why the game wasn't broken/I hadn't made things up. ;)
