Yes that was a shame for you Parksey...

In the end I didn't get the most out of the game. I was really enjoying at the start but the thread was quickly being run by the immune players because they had all the information. I lost some interest in the middle there (I wasn't the only one I'm sure) and by the time I was getting back into it, the thread seemed to have become very quiet. Shame!

I'd like to know who killed me and why the bloody hell they chose me of all people!

Me and Devlin want to be infected as it's more fun.

That was before it looked like the game was about to end and I realised I could actually get involved in the trust circle which sort of left me bored at the start of the game.

I guess this nice new subforum is a good place for me to explain the slight muck up with the player list and why I didn’t think it was gamebreaking.

I was stupid and after I randomly assigned roles I ordered my spreadsheet into an alphabetical by role order. This made it easier for me to see who was a vigi, who was a seer etc. Of course I then copied and pasted that into the OP without even thinking. :fp: I have been thinking about pretending that was deliberate and was designed just to mess around with people, but I don’t think I am a good enough liar to get away with that. ;)

However, this game was always going to result in the special roles being revealed and with them being picked off by the infected. This was part of the idea behind the game, the fact that trust circles could form but that they would eventually be broken and the infected would soon know who they all were. This (unfortunately!) happened a lot earlier than I thought it was going to and had the crappy result of Ironhide being exposed which was the main problem when the player list was revealed.

I don’t think anybody in the know should post the new Alpha’s name in here (we might be hidden but we want to avoid a slip up) but Ironhide and the new Alpha will both be able to confirm that a new Alpha rising up was built into the game. This was built in to avoid the chance of the game dying on the first night and was not a panic decision on my part.

So that’s what happened, I did bad but there wasn’t any real need (imo!) to restart the game or randomise the roles again. Indeed that would have been worse as everyone would have known the exact roles that were there, what was in the vials etc etc. And I wasn’t going to risk not ever exposing MechaPutin to the world. ;)

It’s a shame the game thread seems to have gone quiet but that always happens in these games as the more vocal players get killed off. Hopefully everyone still playing is still enjoying it!

It feels bad to be dead. Frustrating, too, as Irene had me lynched on the basis of an alleged suspicion that never happened.

But, hey, it is a cool game :toot: . I'd never played before and I'm amazed at the time and effort that goes into running it... top stuff, Moggy!

Moggy mate, I don't think you should be disappointed at all. I thought this was a pretty refreshing take on an old favourite that worked pretty well. I'd say the only way it could have been better was if you'd managed to correct the alphabetical list mistake before beginning the game but it actually gave us humans more of a fighting chance.

Why are people thinking its a good idea to say "Oh the seer role must be one of the following people based on the list"? I mean the infected have probably already worked that out but don't do their work for them! :fp:

Also, who are Pointless asking these questions to? I mean is does nobody really remember Hunter? Especially after all the drama and fallout with him and Ulrika? I loved the show but Trojan and Saracen?! Come on now.

Yeah the only person who should be really disappointed is Ironhide as it really screwed him over. Everyone else was going to be found out sooner or later anyway.

I couldn't believe it when everyone started revealing their roles when the alphabetical list was discovered and I don't see why people are pointing out the seers now. People play the game in odd ways.

In retrospect I actually liked the alphabetical list. I wouldn't want it like that every game, but as a one off it was great for pacing - it gave the Humans some early direction and it gave the Infected the chance to properly strategise right away without there being such an emphasis on 'infiltrating a secret circle' (or just getting lucky).

My main frustration wasn't the alphabetical list - though that did consign me to an early grave - but more that the Alien role would have been an interesting role to play and something I haven't had before in these games. Had I been awake when it all kicked off, I might have been able to survive by throwing another player under the bus (if I'd revealed by role I *might* have been able to deflect attention further down the list). Though at the same time, killing the Alpha that early wasn't really in my interest either, given that I wanted the infected to ultimately outnumber the humans.

I was probably strawberry floated either way, in all likelihood.

It was a surprise to wake up to, as I thought I was only really in danger of being infected, which I thought would come sooner rather than later.

Having an interesting role and being killed early is always annoying. That's why vigis always seem to fire their bullets off early, of course you should wait until there is proper evidence but who wants to risk getting killed and having bullets left in your pocket? :slol:

Dan being killed off early was the one that really annoyed me. I wanted him to vote rig and then I could enjoy that days leader trying to convince everyone that he had wanted to lynch somebody else.

I am enjoying their discussion on whether to open the vial or not. I hope they do.... :shifty:

Without wishing to second guess what you're planning, I don't understand why anyone would open a vial after what the last ones have done.

I had literally no reason to use my vote rig all the time I was human as every day we lynched the person I thought we should lynch. As soon as I was infected I thought the exact same thing as you :slol:

Being a Vigilante is mentally the toughest role there is IMO. You have the ability to make a MASSIVE difference, but the paranoia sets in. You don't want to get killed before you've even had a chance to fire off at least one of your bullets, but at the same time you don't want to shoot what could be a crucial player or role that is on the same side as you are.

The best example of someone being "gotten to" by this role and the associated pressure is obviously Mockmaster in the third AYAW game that DML ran. Day 1:

bloodsplatter.jpg

DML: JK was found shot in the head! He was a villager.
Thread: FFS useless Vigilante, what a waste!

Mere MINUTES later:

bloodsplatter.jpg

DML: Aaronayl1 was found shot dead! He was a villager.
Thread: *groan*

I think for me that's what makes the Vampbusters comeback so impressive. Most of us had been able to keep our heads (and our bullets) until the field of suspects had been significantly whittled down, and I think that's the template for that role. There is no use firing off in the first week unless you have some reliable concrete intel from a Seer, otherwise it's almost always a waste.

I was shocked that you lasted as long as you did Drummy. If I was playing as a vigi then that signature of yours would have been reason enough to murder you. ;)

One thing that did amuse me in the early days of the game was the comparisons to The Thing. I have seen that movie but probably not for 20 years and don't remember much about it other than Kurt Russell was in it and an alien shape shifts to look like other people.

My idea for the game basically came from my annoyance with protection circles (I know why they happen but they are annoying!) and from my confusion at the death in Wolf/Vampire games. Surely vampires and werewolves infect the people they attack not just kill them? The idea of an infection came from the idea that the wolves should be adding to their numbers when they "kill" and I just added in Doom/Total Recall/Alien references from there.

My original idea for the game btw was for the infected to all have the power to infect others. Exponential growth would have made that a very short game though plus I didn't think the humans would have any chance of winning.

GREETINGS EARTHLINGS TO THE ETERNAL DIMENSION OF EDACR'G, OR AS YOU MAY CALL IT, THE 'AFTERLIFE'

THE ONE KNOWN AS MOGGY HAS DOOMED US ALL WITH HIS ALPHABETIZED PLAYER LIST, FORTUNATELY YOUR STILL LIVING COUNTERPARTS HAVE YET TO IDENTIFY MY SUCCESSOR.
