Yeah, it's pretty steep.

As much as I've been looking forward to this, I realised the developers also made Divinity Original Sin 2, which is very highly rated, but I also have unplayed on my Steam account, so I'll probably give that some time instead, especially as it looks remarkably similar. From what I've seen of the beta footage for BG3, the character creation screen looks identical to Divinity's, so I imagine it'll be a similar experience, and by the time I get round to finishing that game, this one will probably be down to about £5.

It’s really not expensive these days. With new releases pushing £70. And from my time in early access alone it’s been worth the price tag and that is only a small fraction of the complete game. I understand people thinking it’s like divinity but it’s actually it’s own thing once you get past the graphical style. The sheer depth and options open to players is insane. Anything you can think of to try and break the game I’m pretty sure developers have thought of and found ways to allow or incorporate. I’ve played act 1 three times and had a vastly different experience each time. I truly believe this will set the benchmark for RPG games, seems a lot of others do too since there are news stories about other game developers taking shots at Larian for raising the bar (jealousy) complaining that gamers will expect that level of depth and detail in all future games.

Divinity is good but this is better.

It is when the most I want to spend on a game these days is £30. Anything over that I'll usually wait for a sale further down the line. Cannot fathom the idea of dropping £70 on a video game.

I guess it comes down to value. My £50 on BG3 has already given me 100 hours entertaining and I know I can triple that before I’m done (with the huge diversity and multiple paths / endings it’s feasible it could last hundreds of hours more) I’d argue that is good value. For the cost of a night out and takeaway I’m getting probably 6 months of entertainment.

Sure £70 for a one and done triple A linear story focused game is bad value but I truly feel BG3 is a bargain at that price.

I've long since stopped equating number of hours with value. Partly because I'll rarely ever play these massive games all the way through, usually dropping them when I feel like I've had my fill after tens of hours, but also because so many massive games feel like they're crammed with filler and padding. Maybe this one isn't, but I won't know until I try it. One man's satisfying combat is another man's tedious grind.

Much like with Zelda and Elden Ring, I'm hoping that this is long because it has lots of fun things to do - i.e. interesting stories to be a part of - rather than because it's padded out with busywork. The beta was well received by people who like CRPGs so I'm very optimistic!

I don't have huge amounts of time for gaming, but I'll carve out time for this for sure.

Ha, you'll be lucky. Here in London that would get you 1 large Domino's pizza and a garlic bread. Or a curry. For 1. The madras I had last week was £9.50 before you even move onto anything else.

So the question is, what on Earth is Pedz eating?! A takeaway for 2 will easily cost me £30-£40. Sometimes more if I go all out. I'd love to know how Pedz is feeding 6 for less.

I played it when it was on Stadia and it was really enjoyable with a controller.

To be fair we don't order a gooseberry fool ton of stuff usually and mostly we get Chinese.

2 large chips
2 large egg fried Rice
Plain chow mein
10 chicken balls with Barbaque Sauce
Salt and Pepper spare ribs
Carton of Curry
Sometimes we also get a carton of Peking Sauce.
Prawn Crackers.

I think that's it, tbh.

I think we spend closer to £30 we we get burgers and pizza.

3/4lb cheese burger meal (comes with chips and Can)
1/4lb cheese burger meal
1 large chicken tikka Kebab Meal
1 medium Chicken Tikka Kebab meal
1 medium cheese pizza
1 medium tasty chicken pizza (chicken tikka and sweetcorn)
2 cheesy chips.

It's also cheaper to phone them/go there than use just eat and the like.

Oh that's fair, the Chinese food round where I live is definitely more affordable than other takeaways. That and fish and chips.

I simply will not trust takeaways where pizza and kebabs are on the same menu.

I'll be honest I would rather the pizza from there than, say, dominoes.

But, the missus does homemade pizza so we rarely get that as takeaway.

S&P ribs though
