We’ll know the release date once we’re confident in the release version. The plan is still before the end of the year. The key takeaway here should be that we want a really good version that Xbox fans deserve. This means we’ll work on it until we’re happy to release it.

...love this! Quality is taking priority and that's a good thing for potential purchasers. I wish that more publishers did this.

Oh! And in the comments there is an exchange that kinda suggests that a physical version may turn up in the future, too.

Baldur's Gate 3 dev shows off the level of optimization achieved for the Xbox Series S port, which bodes well for future PC updates

Little things can often matter a lot and when it comes to streamlining a game's memory usage, every gigabyte counts. One of the developers at Larian, makers of Baldur's Gate 3, has shown that the team's recent hard work has resulted in a 34% reduction in VRAM usage for the forthcoming Xbox Series S version.

The good news was shared by Swen Vincke on Twitter, via a short post with two graphs showing how the RAM and VRAM loads of the Series S port of Baldur's Gate 3 have been significantly reduced in recent weeks.

It's worth noting that out of all the platforms that Larian has developed its masterpiece for, the Xbox Series S is probably the most restrictive. This is because it only has 8GB of high-bandwidth memory, to store the game while running and use as VRAM (the remaining 2GB gets used for system functions).

The graphs start at the beginning of September, with the game using just over 5.2GB for general game RAM and around 3.5GB for VRAM. By November, though, Larian had shaved this down to 4.7GB and 2.3GB respectively. The RAM reduction is a pretty decent 10% drop but the reduction in VRAM usage is a massive 34%.

This is why I'm actually more excited to see what developers can do with the PS5 and XSX rather than a Pro console.
I'd love the see the hardware really pushed like in the days of the 360 and PS3 and optimised to hell.

There's plenty left in the machines we have.

You can pre-order the physical edition now. You seem to get a lot for your money surprisingly

Ooh need to get back to my playthrough, I stopped at the beginning of Act 3. Hopefully patch 5 drops soon as I'd like a few days of it before it releases onto Gamepass on the 8th (definitely happening)

I'd really like to give the game a go at some point. I do fear the need for brainpower - it appears to be pretty complex - and the small screen text... but it looks to be great. I will be awaiting a sale on the PS5 version!

For no good reason other than rinks making a speculative comment a week ago, I FULLY expect this to release on Game Pass day 1. If it doesn't I will feel robbed.

The Gamepass schedule for December is looking mighty empty at this point. Couple that with BG3 still not giving an actual release date even though its supposed to come out within a month and this does give it some credibility.

Dunno about anyone else but I'm waiting for the Switch port.

Darn, I was hoping the physical version would be out before Christmas, and that there would be a standard edition, to pick it up for my wife.

It's been delayed because Doug Bowser demands parity with the Wii U port
