Would be nice if the game, whatever it is, kept a similar style of art to the trailer...

No gameplay or even a hint of how the game will play. :fp: Could be 3D Souls or 2D Salt And Sanctuary based on that. Great CG visuals and art style, though.

Well it's just an announcement trailer to say they're working on something, show a few vague hints at what it's about, with details to follow on the 20th. Not sure why you'd expect much more than that.

Edit: not sure where I pulled the 20th from, actually.

Well Bloodborne had werewolves in it and vampires are another popular monster "prepared" to "dine" on their victims. Bloodborne 2 confirmed but with vampires this time.

Bandai Namco announces Code Vein, a new action RPG from the God Eater team

The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu reveals Code Vein, a new “dungeon exploration-type, hard action RPG” from Bandai Namco developed by the team behind God Eater. It is due out in 2018 for unannounced platform(s).

Code Vein was first teased via a short video last week. An official worldwide reveal is set for April 20.

The game is set in a near future where everything has gone to ruin. Players are Revenants, vampires that possess supernatural abilities, that will take on the truth of the world while working together with allies.

In order to survive, Revenants live in an isolated society called “Vein.” The Revenant is a being that has transcended humanity, but as a result has lost most of their memories. A Revenant who is short on blood will turn into a monster called a “Lost.”

One of the main features of Code Vein is the “Buddy” system. When exploring dungeons, you can bring a single partner along.

Revenants mainly use close-range weapons such as great swords and one-handed swords. Other weapons such as spears and hammers also exist.

Here are a pair of key terms:

Blood Veil – The Blood Veil is a Revenant-original piece of equipment that sucks up the blood of Losts. It’s usually shaped like clothing and functions as armor. A dedicated mechanism appears at the time of blood sucking, and the user’s mask sees an ominous change.
Special Ability: “Tempered Blood” – An action that can be triggered after a successful blood sucking attack via the Blood Vale, and that depends on the blood obtained from the Lost. There are a number of variations, such as strengthening yourself, weakening enemies, and direct attacks.

Staff working on the project includes:

Producer: Keita Iizuka
Director: Hiroshi Yoshimura
Project Team Leader: Yusuke Tomizawa

Development is currently 35 percent complete. A trailer will be revealed shortly, likely when the game is officially announced on April 20.

Thanks, Hachima Kikou.

Update 8:40 a.m.: More information has come in.

The game is being made as a new challenge on a separate development line from the God Eater series.
Regarding whether it is related to God Eater, Iizuka said: “We are developing it as a new title that offers a new game experience.”
“Vein” refers to the English word “vein.” “Code” is “code.” The impression here is “codes of blood.”
The title implies there is a hidden truth in the closed world players will explore, Vein.
The name of the genre is “dramatic exploration action RPG.” The “exploration action RPG” genre has players tensely exploring seamlessly connected areas on foot, which offers a great sense of accomplishment. The team put a lot of thought into how it could improve on that formula.
By traveling with a buddy, you can overcome great challenges that you might give up on if you were playing a highly difficult game on your own, and feel a greater sense of accomplishment.
Buddies act on their own, but it will also be necessary for the player to take action to help their buddy.
The game engine is Unreal Engine 4.
They still can’t say which platform(s) it will support. But it will be released for console.
A gameplay trailer will be released in early May.
This is a Japanese title aiming for a worldwide release.
As team leader, Tomizawa will oversee both God Eater and Code Vein.

That opening section all sounds very Soulsborne. Just replace "Revenant" with "Chosen Undead", replace "Lost" with "Hollow" and "Buddy" with "Jolly Cooperation".

Well it fills a need for players and publishers.

My biggest worry is that it'll play like a monster hunter "rooms" game.

Not saying that's a bad thing, just making an observation.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Wasn't God Eater like Namco's version of Monster Hunter?

So much for hoping the game's artstyle would be similar to the trailer's  :dread:

Yet to play either so I can't say.

So, this popped up in gamepass so I thought I'd give it a download. Is anyone else playing it? The thread doesn't look like it was ever that busy...

The character creator gives you so many options :slol: Probably spent an hour just looking at what I could do before I actually started it.

Not sure I understand a lot of the combat at the moment, but hopefully I'll pick it up soon :shifty: I'm absolutely rubbish at the timing with parrying, and as the enemies do SO MUCH DAMAGE when they hit you I'm not sure how I'm going to practise

It's a game I intend to play eventually. Most likely when I can get it for a fiver.

It's a decent souls-like in terms of its gameplay. Its class/skills system is actually pretty interesting, and it has some cool zones and fun boss battles.

The writing is the main thing lets it down really. Some of the standard mob enemies can be a bit repetitive at times too.

I'd recommend it if you can look past the very anime characters and storyline. I like anime so I found it funny and it wasn't a problem for me, but you've got to be aware of it going in I think.

I didn't finish it, but I don't regret the time I spent with it.

(A hint for anyone that gets it: the game doesn't really make this clear, but it's better not to over-level. If you level up 5 times every time you unlock a new big zone to explore that'll be plenty.)

Is that just because it seems to use the same thing for everything? Like leveling up/buying items/learning skills all uses the same currency or does it end up levelling enemies up to match you anyway?

Here's a brief explanation, it's not really a spoiler but I'll box it just in case:
Levelling up increases your Max HP, making the fights easier; but decreases the Skill Exp you get per kill, making it harder to learn new spells and special moves.

You'll want to level up a bit so you can take some hits, but you don't want to level up so much that you struggle to use new techniques as they become available.

Oooh. Hadn't noticed that. Thanks! I've been trying not to overlevel just in case I wanted to buy any new equipment, but it's all too expensive for me anyway.
