Trailer | Season 1

Synopsis
The good. The evil. The beginning.

Everyone knows the name Commissioner Gordon. He is one of the crime world's greatest foes, a man whose reputation is synonymous with law and order. But what is known of Gordon's story and his rise from rookie detective to Police Commissioner? What did it take to navigate the multiple layers of corruption that secretly ruled Gotham City, the spawning ground of the world's most iconic villains? And what circumstances created them – the larger-than-life personas who would become Catwoman, The Penguin, The Riddler, Two-Face and The Joker?

GOTHAM is an origin story of the great DC Comics Super-Villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told. From executive producer/writer Bruno Heller (“The Mentalist,” “Rome”), GOTHAM follows one cop's rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering between good and evil, and chronicles the birth of one of the most popular super heroes of our time.

Growing up in Gotham City's surrounding suburbs, JAMES GORDON (Ben McKenzie, “Southland,” “The O.C.”) romanticized the city as a glamorous and exciting metropolis where his late father once served as a successful district attorney. Now, two weeks into his new job as a Gotham City detective and engaged to his beloved fiancée, BARBARA KEAN (Erin Richards, “Open Grave,” “Breaking In”), Gordon is living his dream – even as he hopes to restore the city back to the pure version he remembers it was as a kid.

Brave, honest and ready to prove himself, the newly-minted detective is partnered with the brash, but shrewd police legend HARVEY BULLOCK (Donal Logue, “Sons of Anarchy,” “Terriers,” “Vikings,” “Copper”), as the two stumble upon the city's highest-profile case ever: the murder of local billionaires Thomas and Martha Wayne. At the scene of the crime, Gordon meets the sole survivor: the Waynes' hauntingly intense 12-year-old son, BRUCE (David Mazouz, “Touch”), toward whom the young detective feels an inexplicable kinship. Moved by the boy's profound loss, Gordon vows to catch the killer.

As he navigates the often-underhanded politics of Gotham's criminal justice system, Gordon will confront imposing gang boss FISH MOONEY (Jada Pinkett Smith, “The Matrix” franchise, “HawthoRNe”), mob kingpin CARMINE FALCONE (John Doman, “The Wire”) and many of the characters who will become some of fiction's most renowned, enduring villains, including a teenaged SELINA KYLE/the future CATWOMAN (acting newcomer Camren Bicondova), OSWALD COBBLEPOT/THE PENGUIN (Robin Lord Taylor, “The Walking Dead”) and EDWARD NYGMA/the future RIDDLER (newcomer Cory Michael Smith).

The crime drama will follow Gordon's turbulent and singular rise through the Gotha

It doesn't make sense to put it in Nolanverse Batman if that's not going to be used with any future crossover or Justice League films though. They'd be far better just getting to work on setting things in the same universe to setup the big crossovers.

That was my first thought, it would be a good way to introduce the new universe that the movies will use. Could still be pretty cool though, if it actually comes to fruition.

Person of Interest is already a show. It already has a Nolan involved in it too.

Jada Pinkett-Smith cast as Gotham gangster

Fox has added a new character to DC’s Gotham in the form of sadistic gangster Fish Mooney, played by Jada Pinkett-Smith

After Batman prequel Gotham established DC characters Jim Gordon, the Penguin, and Detective Harvey Bullock, it’s gone off-canon with the next announcement. Introducing Jada Pinkett-Smith as new addition to the Gotham universe: Fish Mooney.

Best recognised for her roles in Matrix and Madagascar franchises Pinkett-Smith will be playing "a sadistic gangster boss and nightclub owner". The official blurb describes Mooney as having "the street smarts and almost extra-sensory abilities to read people like an open book. Imposing and hotheaded, she’s not one to be crossed."

If you've followed the trickle of Gotham casting announcements thus far, you might remember the name Mooney as the boss of one Oswald Cobblepot, aka The Penguin. Though new, Pinkett-Smith's character has links to Gotham's established roster of criminals.

Already been posted elsewhere but some more of the casting.

Sean Pertwee has joined the cast of Gotham as a younger version of Wayne family butler, Alfred...

We heard over the weekend that The OC and Southland's Ben McKenzie had taken the lead part of Jim-not-yet-the-Commissioner Gordon in Fox's forthcoming Batman prequel, Gotham, and now key roles Alfred Pennyworth and The Penguin have also been assigned.

Sean Pertwee is to play tough ex-marine Alfred, butler to the Wayne family and a man "fiercely protective" of young charge Bruce following a tragic event (we're being deliberately vague, but come on, it's hardly going to be a surprise). It's a fine choice, by our reckoning.

Joining Pertwee will be Robin Lord Taylor in the role of Oswald Cobblepot, better known as The Penguin. Variety describes the character thusly, "With the brains of a chess grandmaster and the morals of a jackal, Cobblepot is a low-level psychopath for gangster Fish Mooney, and hides his sadistic lust for power behind an exquisitely polite demeanor."

I haven't hated the casting announcements yet. If someone gets cast as Catwoman or Joker I expect that to change.

I adore the Gotham Central comics so this sounds interesting. Hope it works.

I'm liking the look of the cast so far. It a shame that Brubaker and Rucka apparently haven't been approached to consult on it or anything.

The thing is there's a fundamental difference between this and Gotham Central. Gotham Central was a story about how a police force operates in a city shaped and protected by Batman. Batman barely features but his presence is constantly felt throughout both in his rogue's gallery and the cops trying to prove they can do their job without relying on him.

This seems to be focused on Gordon (who IIRC was only in like one issue of GC) and is set before Batman exists.

Some choice quotes apparently from the pilot's script:

ALFRED: Oi! Master Bruce! Stop playing silly buggers! Get your bloody arse down off there!

GORDON (to Bruce): There was nothing you could do to stop what happened. But there is something you can do now. Now you can be strong. Grief can make you strong. Be strong and one day maybe you can stop this from happening to somebody else.

BARBARA (blithely): Jim, you are the cleverest, bravest, goodest man in Gotham.

Definitely not Gotham Central.

True, I do enjoy Arrow, but I didn't like Man of Steel and have little hope in what Zack Snyder can do with Superman and Batman. As a DC fan I am worried.

They are badly needing someone like Kevin Feige to oversee everything.

Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle cast -

Image

There’s a new budding millionaire bachelor in Gotham City. Warner Bros. TV has tapped “Touch” alum David Mazouz for the role of a pre-teen Bruce Wayne in “Gotham,” the studio’s Batman origins drama for Fox.

Mazouz will play boy who leans on his butler Alfred and Commissioner James Gordon for guidance after his wealthy parents are murdered. Bruce Wayne has traditionally been the alter ego of the Caped Crusader — but Mazouz will not at any point become Batman in the show, something Warner Bros. took pains to point that out in announcing the casting.

Also cast in “Gotham,” which has a series order from Fox, is Camren Bicondova, who will play Selina Kyle, a teenage orphan and street thief who is suspicious and wholly unpredictable.
