PostBayonetta creator wants to make new Starfox.

Specifically, he wants to be held at gun-point and forced to make it.

In a recent interview with GamesTM, Shigeru Miyamoto seemed to express interest in having a new Star Fox game made. If he's really interested, it looks like there's one acclaimed developer ready for the task.

Platinum Games' Hideki Kamiya, director of the critically acclaimed Bayonetta and Okami, had quite a bit to say on this matter at his Twitter when a follower pointed out the interview to him yesterday.

First, he Tweeted: "If they had the team that made Star Fox 64 make it..."

He then followed with: "I want Nintendo's staff to come to Platinum, stick guns at us and tell us 'You guys make a new Star Fox.'"

He went on to offer great praise for Star Fox 64, particular for its scenario and the heated battles.

It looks like Kamiya already got midway through development of his own little Star Fox. As a submission for entering Capcom, he offered two ideas. One involved wolves and ended up being the basis for Okami. The other was a 3D shooting game. However, he was so satisfied with Star Fox 64 that he thought there'd be no need to make a 3D shooter.

I would have my reservations about it--I had my heart set on Retro making it, chiefly--but this would still be mind-boggling if it ever came to fruition.

for a new SF or that Plat handle the development?

I'd rather a more competent developer handle any new Starfox. Bayo's 'on rails' section was shockingly bad.

I think Kamiya and Starfox could really work. It'd be different to Bayonetta, and he'd certainly bring a fast pace, responsive control and cinematic action to the table.

The way in which he lauds Starfox 64 specifically inspires a lot of confidence that he'd try to fashion a game that builds on the strengths of that particular title, though. It hasn't been that long since the last Starfox game--less than 4 years, I think--but in terms of how long we've been waiting for a Starfox game as good as 64, it's been a long time since 1997.

I think Kamiya and his team could bring a lot of pizazz to the on rails Fox template, would love to see this happen.

I actually just bought Lylat Wars on VC.

It's a shame about the glitchy unplayable level in that version. They didn't even bother to fix it. Still,

The obvious choice is Treasure, as suzz pointed out. They should have got them do do a new Starfox, rather than S&P 2.

I'd rather Nintendo just made it themselves. Everytime they've shifted it off to someone else the games have been gooseberry fool.

I quite like Starfox Assault.

Admittedly, I have quite a weakness for the series, after playing Lylat Wars non-stop (admittedly, some time after release, in 2001), but to give the game some credit, the Arwing levels are pretty damned good. Granted, the face they still can't match a game released in 1997 is eternally disappointing (as is the fact everything the mechanics all feel much looser), but if the whole game had followed suit it would have been consistently enjoyable.

Whilst the on-foot and Landmaster sections are solid in their construction, the actual implementation is lacking. The levels themselves are very by-the-numbers and uniformly dull - a shame really, as Starfox could suit these if they worked appropriately, though they still should probably just stick to flight combat.

The opening level of Assault is great, mind. As is the last level.

Aquas. Your standard shoot button doesn't work 50% of the time. I don't remember it being like that in the original.

It makes it kinda unplayable, despite having lock on torpedoes.

Even the original Starfox?

Provided Nintendo keep an eye on the project it should be fine. Bayonetta is one of the best games of this generation, they have form.
