I'm yet to hear a convincing argument for why I should choose a charcoal BBQ over a gas BBQ, other than "nurr it's better". I won't be spending hours smoking ribs or making brisket like some Man v Food BBQ pit restaurant, I'll just be whacking a nice piece of steak or some burgers or fish on the barbie for a nice summer evening meal like a regular joe citizen.

On the gas grill.

Sounds like a laziness choice rather than one of taste Tbh.

Happy to admit that yes I am lazy. But I think it's also about convenience - I would like to finish work on a Friday, fight through the rush-hour traffic to get home and then treat the family to a pre-weekend BBQ. I don't want to have to spend an hour getting it up to the right temperature, and gas gives you much more control over the heat of the BBQ.

Sounds like your equipment isn't up to scratch.

Give you more time to empty the cat litter tray and roll a fag amirite.

Probably wouldn't be able to lift it into the garden though.

There is no reason to choose charcoal over gas if all youre gonna cook is steaks, burgers etc and convenience is a factor so go with gas, it does the job just fine.

The question isn't why would you choose a Charcoal BBQ over a Gas BBQ, the question is why would you choose a Gas BBQ when you have an oven inside your house.

You also probably have a hob attached to your oven

It's nice to cook on a charcoal BBQ, not that hard to understand 8^)

If you want to cook outside for the experience, then charcoal is the more full experience. Burning gas has nothing on smoke billowing off a coal fire

Nope, standalone oven and seperate hob. ;)

This is the big advantage for me, the smell and the feel is more authentic.

I think I owe it to myself and the dinosaurs that perished to consider a charcoal BBQ. I will admit that the intangible "feeling" of cooking with coal and all that comes with it certainly scratches a primordial itch deep in the pit of my stomach.

We'll see.

Beat the charcoal and the gas snobs by buying an electric barbecue. 8-)
