I remember the days of PC shareware, where developers would give you a huge chunk of their game for free. First episodes of Doom, Duke Nukem 3d and Quake were far better than the majority of full priced games floating around at the time.

I remember that demo, was marvellous fun.

Playing porsche challenge, rage racer, lifeforce tenka, abes oddysse, all on one disc!! It was great! Even that shitty game where you controlled a boat and shot at stuff was good

Was that demo 1? As these games came about two years after the ps1 came out. The original PS1 demo disk came with Wipeout, Toshinden and Destruction Derby.

I was trying to think what demo made me truly excited about its release and this was it! This blew me away when I first played it

What was that PS1 demo where you had a limited time to do a load of jobs on a space station? It was a first person game, you walked around talking to people and getting items to solve problems/fix things.

EDIT: I found it, it was called Sentient. A proper evil and confusing demo, that was.

I remember that demo being very, very stingy. It was literally about three or four screens and stopped when you got to the lift.

There were two demos though. One that I think came bundled with ISS Pro '98 & a much longer one that came with OPM a few months later.

The ISS one was in Japanese but still let you get to the vent after the Heliport.

And it's the best demo ever.

I'm definitely talking about the demo that came with ISS pro 98. As I didn't buy the Official Playstation magazine.

No, best demo ever was Panzer Dragoon Saga. Legend has it, Sega were going to produce a demo, mucked it up, and to placate Sega Saturn Magazine, gave us all Disk 1 of the proper game in it's entirety.

Regardless of whether it stopped at the lift or not (I'm sure it did, but it was 10 years ago), it's not the best demo ever. Not by a long shot.

A good demo, IMHO, is one that you'll play countless amount of times, of a good length that'll MAKE you buy the game.

I'm talking about the demo that came with OPM. That Metal Gear Solid demo, playable to the DARPA Chief, is burned in to my mind. I think about it daily!

The Half Life:Uplink demo. It was like a perfectly formed 30 minute mini-adventure Valve created specially for the demo. It had all the great elements of HL condensed into one level. I must have played that over and over again, and it ignited my interest for the game.

Oh, okay then. Still, I was right about the ISS Pro 98 Metal Gear Solid demo then. Konami must have revised it, after they realised it was too strawberry floating short.
