Nope. I thought it was terrible.

Skate. Before I played it, I thought I had no reason to like it. I'm not even sure why I downloaded the demo. After I played it, I realised I had every reason to love it.

Some demos confirm your expectations, but never has one so completely confounded them in such a good way as Skate did.

Of course I did, I'm a gamer.

I would like to add if I may First Hunt that came with the DS, really showed what the consoles touch screen could do, and from that spawned a great online Metroid game. I rest my case.

The Half-Life demo. It came out months after the game, and was actually a complete standalone level, with nothing to do with the actual storyline of Half-Life, so even Half-Life owners could enjoy the demo

I dunno if anyone else will have even heard about this but some years back there was a near future third person tank action driving/shooting game called "Recoil" (I think) on PC, anyways the demo was just one level but it was a massive tropical island that you had to pilot your futurey metal beast through blasting all sorts of other futuery metal nasties and helicopters and gooseberry fool with a range of coolly animated weapons that popped out of a singe transforming main turret. The scenery was lush, the terrain and environment design interesting and it wasn't a push over either. I had to learn strategy for the first time in a game and play the demo 3 or four times just to reach the end and get the hard sell for the real thing.

It was Far Cry in something resembling a Cybertronian Transformers tank basically and I loved it, never ever saw it in the shops and this was before we even had internet in my home. :(

Edit: God bless the internet: http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/153/153717p1.html

It does look a bit poo now but I swear it was great then.

Hell yeah, this it, this is what I spent hours on, brings back memories *sniff*

I remember a demo I had of Resident Evil 2 that I played over and over again. I absolutely loved it.

So yeah, that's probably my favourite.

Guitar Hero3 on the 360 hooked me for weeks until I finally got a copy of the full game with the guitar.

From the older generations, loved the MGS1 demo the most

That is the lowest selling PS1 game of all time, less than 250 copies, I have a friend who worked on it. Psygnosis were so ashamed that they took it out of all their softographies and pretend it never happened.

I have a copy by the way.

The Skies of Arcadia demo that came with an issue of some Dreamcast magazine was meant to be about 4 hours long or something, I once heard. It took you threw most of the opening of the game, which was brilliant for a demo.

Seconded, I became a fan of Z.O.E because of the MGS2 Demo

Yey, glad someone else is on the ball. This demo introduced me to PC gaming. I must have been about 8, it took me ages to figure out the 'use' button was the space bar! They gave you the best level in the game imo and if you played it with the PC Format disc still in the drive it played the GTA music. Memories...

I have the full version of that somewhere; came free with a Time PC (Leonard Nimoy is a persuasive salesman) along with Unreal Tournament, Expendable and a load of other stuff. I thought it was great especially the remote controlled nuke, the kind of things you could transform into, levels and the setpieces within them were good as well.

I'm going to have to go find it now

Diablo 1.

IIRC, I installed the demo on Sunday morning and actually had purchased the full game in a shop come 9AM Monday morning.

Recalling that tank game Recoil made me think of another similar game that had a cool demo I squeezed hours out of. Wild Metal Country, similar gameplay except the gimick was that all the enemy tanks etc had their styles and more interestingly their behaviour patterns based on animals. So there were some that would roam the map attacking anything, others that would only defend and smaller ones that perched on rocky outcrops that would only attack wyou if you tried to steal the macguffins from their 'nests'.

I really enjoyed it but it was another one I never brought on account of being poor.
