Can't see Nintendo releasing before then end of 2012 and I'd be willing to bet MS and Sony will be at least a year (probably more) after that.

Next year will be the winding down period for the Wii. Mario Sports and Zelda ensure there is something for everyone to play but Id hope for their next home console in 2012. 2011 is too early as they would be stealing thunder away from the 3DS' first christmas. Hopefully we will see The Last Story and Xenoblade over here before then.

I expect a new Wii in 2012, the next Xbox in 2014, and PS4 in 2015.

Each year seems to improve upon the last. It's great.

I'm gonna be controversial here, I think this is the worst year I can remember in gaming. So many uninnovative sequels and COD clones. It's been so bad I've only bought 2 boxed games all year (Mass Effect 2 and Halo Reach, both sequels). Also, I don't think Move and Kinect's launches couldn't have gone any worse, truly awful lineups!

I like to have a game to play over the Christmas holidays, this year it'll be Shenmue.

Did Red Dead Redemption not appeal? That is game of the year for me.

I like how they boasted about the size of the game, 90% of it was wasteland and a waste of polygons. Don't get me started on the controls.

I got to Mexico and just stopped playing after that. Couldn't be bothered.

You can hardly complain about uninnovative sequels if that's the only other game you've bought this year.

Also, Red Dead Redemption is quite possibly the best online game I've ever played.

I thought it was a pretty good game, but much like GTA4 it lacked any originality and seems to have taken a step backwards since the last gen. Both games are solid affairs with decent controls and good voice acting, but it lacks that spark that made the PS2 generation of games much better. There's just so much more variety in GTA 3, VC and SA, especially the latter which is just immense!

It seems as though more and more games are lacking any gameplay innovation and are instead focusing on the online side of things or adding a few side missions to lengthen the experience. I am not going to ramble on any further about how far behind this gen is in pure gameplay and originality terms...

Red Dead Redemption is a complete let-down. Not at all worthy of GotY.

Not just gameplay... graphics peaked with Gears of War.

Yeah, thats true. TBH graphics do not matter anymore. Good developers will get the best out of the hardware and concentrate on the gameplay. Too many games these days are being rushed, but it is not their fault. There is more competition and development costs are higher. This gen needs to last another 7 years so that development costs fall and games go back to basics - gameplay.

Yup, apart from Nintendo I don't think we'll see next-gen consoles til 2015.
