PostBest/Worst Movies of 2023

Yep, you guys know the drill, post your favourite movies from the past year, along with those you also found to be terrible.

In my case though (you guys don't have to do this), i'm including films which were released on home media rather than the cinemas, as i simply don't get the chance to go to the cinema (and a lot of films released this autumn i won't see until sometime next year, hence some of my choices are from 2022).

Anyhow...

Vermi's Top Films of 2023 (in no particular order)

1. Avatar: The Way of Water
2. Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1
3. Prey
4. Barbie
5. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3
6. All Quiet on The Western Front
7. Talk To Me

Honorable mentions: Indy 5, Elemental, Little Mermaid remake, Super Mario Bros, Fast X.

Worst Movies

1. Everything Everywhere All At Once
2. Ant Man & The Wasp: Quantumania
3. The Flash

I've seen that, agree it's shite! Did you see the story that some school teacher in America played it too a group of young kids!?

Cobweb, GOTG3, Scream 6 and Evil Dead Rise are probably the best new films I've watched this year. EDIT and Extraction 2 ( seen more new films than I realised.)

Another turd was The Black Demon.

Best
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutant Mayhem
Spiderman Into The Spiderverse
Guardians of the Galaxy 3

Worst (really, more disappointing than anything)
They Cloned Tyrone

I've watched more tv shows than films this year, for once! I do have quite a few to catch up on over the Christmas break, so no doubt this list will change.

Marvels was the worst for me, that strawberry floating sucked. Boring as hell.

Shout out for Napeleon too, was so disappointed by that.

Barbie was great.

My favourite films of 2023;

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning
John Wick: Chapter 4
Empire of Light
Missing
Air
Still: A Michael J Fox Movie
A Guilty Conscience
The Fabelmans
Extraction II
TMNT: Mutant Mayhem
SISU
Beau is Afraid

It’s been the year of the Action Film for me, great to see some of these on the IMAX.

Biggest Surprise: Thanksgiving - a great low budget horror thriller that deserves more attention.

Worst films of the year for me, Infinity Pool, The Royal Hotel and Expend4bles.

Top movie of the year for me was Spider-verse. Haven't seen a great deal else, D&D and Indy 5 were both tremendous amounts of fun and GOTG3 capped off the trilogy perfectly. Looking forward to the Boy and the Heron next week.

I think the only film released this year that I've watched was Saw X.

My interest in modern films is pretty much non-existent now, the associated cost and the abject lack of quality has turned me off. If there any flicks from this year which you think I'll enjoy then let me know.

1. Barbie
2. Oppenheimer
3. Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves
4. The Little Mermaid

Favourite Film of the Year

Oppenheimer- I think this year had a decent amount of good films this year but this is the only one I've seen which I'd call great.

Honourable Mentions

The Fablemens- Perhaps a bit too self indulgent but I enjoyed it. Not one to watch on repeat though.
Renfeld
Spiderman Across the Spiderverse- 2nd half of this was really good, so high hopes for the sequel.

Most Disappointing Film of the Year

Super Mario Brothers- It was fine, a 6/10 but I was really hoping it would have been better.

Honourable Mentions

Asteroid City- I find Wes Anderson's film can be a bit hit or miss. French Dispatch is my favourite WA film, so was a bit disappointed that Asteroid City really wasn't very good.

Sisu- Managed to make a film about on old guy fighting Nazi's in the Finish Countryside dull somehow.

Ant Man 3- Was just a bit dull and I think the sign that I'm not bothered about keeping up with the Marvel films any more.

Most Surprising Film of the Year

Barbie- This was much better than I was expecting

Honourable Mentions

Women Talking- Almost forgot I'd watched this. Consider the title/premise I found it compelling.

Sleeper Hit of the Year

Renfeld- I really enjoyed this. It deserved to do better at the box office than it did.

Honourable Mentions

Cocaine Bear- The 80 minute film format lives on.

The Whale

Films I wish I saw at the cinema but haven't got around to seeing yet.

Guardians of the Galaxy 3
Dumb Money

Yep, it could have been cheesy bollocks but turned out really well.

It was great to see a good D&D film at last.

Haven't seen anything from this year, I've really lost interest in watching films for some reason, I've been getting back into gaming and have developed a taste for manga.
