That's certainly a valid in-game theory, but I'm strictly talking externally here. I just don't think Bethesda have the writers on staff to do the series justice, or to even understand what made the original games so special in the first place. It wasn't the combat or even the aesthetic, it was the social commentary expressed through the sheer quality of the writing.

Bethesda can make a cracking open world RPG, but they can't write for toffee.

They obviously sort of could at one point though. Playing Skyrim most of the quests and main plot lines are pretty dull but the lore behind everything still seems interest, mainly because it was created through the earlier instalments in the series. Back in Morrowind they did not struggle with making the thing engaging.

Bethesda these days are just a mediocre developer relying on the foundations laid down by other developers are themselves in better times.

This is why Cyberpunk is such an important game now. It really needs to be good and successful, not just for its own sake, but for the sake of the future of immersive sims in an age where there are far easier ways to make money.

Loads of previews based upon actual gameplay are out there now; there's plenty of footage on YouTube.

I don't know what to think about it. I like the idea of a vast, open MMO-style wasteland... but the potential for griefers seems high and the added "survival" aspects just seem like they'll be frustrating rather than fun.

This was gonna be a game that I wanted to get but doing so feels like a bit of a gamble.

While Fallout 76 isn't on my immediate to buy list if it plays anything like Conan Exiles, but with more polish, then I'd be happy.

Just looks like a Fallout 4 multiplayer add on at full price tbh.

Should that be "Fallout 4 just looks like a Fallout 3 add on at full price and Fallout 76 just looks like a multiplayer add of that at full price". :slol:

After watching a few hours of video this game has dropped of my radar it looks really dull and I'm not sure if it's the videos I've seen but the textures looks over saturated and washed out.

You inspired me to watch some videos and the base building looks to have a ton more stuff than was available in 4 B)

In the NoClip doc Howard straight up states this is the case. They were playing around with ideas for MP during the development of F4 but nothing was prepared in time. Instead of adding it as DLC or an update, they continued to expand the concept and it became 76.

Just checked in on the gameplay videos and reactions... Yeah, this looks pretty bad.

I've watched a few "actual gameplay" videos of this and I'm still unsure. In an ideal world, you'd group up with friends / randoms and have a fine old time exploring the vast wilderness... but, in reality, you just know that half the players you meet are gonna shoot you, stand around dancing and just be complete bell-ends. The VATS targeting system seems very ill-suited to the "always moving" online environment, too.

But it's Fallout and so I'm still interested :| .

Which is why, when friends aren't available, I prefer those MMOs where you can just go off and do your own thing, almost single player like. ESO, Secret World and Conan being good examples.

It looks like Destiny: Fallout Edition. Only with janky as gooseberry fool gameplay. strawberry floating hard pass.

I'm getting this from Boomerang so will try it but so far I have to say the hype hasn't been exactly overwhelming.

Hopefully Elder Scrolls 6 (when it finally gets released in 5 years) will be better.

I rarely buy new games but this gets released around the time of my birthday so I was planning on treating myself and picking a copy up but after having seen someone on YouTube reviewing the demo this morning I'm firmly on the fence about the game now. I think I'll wait for reviews to start coming in before I pick this up and will treat myself to Spider-Man instead.
