From the RPS article comments on the PC beta:

No FOV adjustment
No ultrawide resolutions
No push to talk, mic is always on,
Minimal control remapping
Minimal graphics settings
Mouse acceleration/smoothing
No high refresh rate support, physics still break in higher refresh rates

It's never going to be because they strawberry floated up and took the franchise in a direction no-one wanted.

Ah yes, there is also that.

It being a flop is far from guaranteed but you just know that's going to be the response if it is. I reckon the initial sales will be great, but it'll be on Game Pass within the year and Beth will stop supporting it in maybe a year and a half after 1 or 2 DLC drops.

This "games as a service" era we find ourselves in is and will continue to kill off a lot of classic franchises I feel. Certainly a factor in why I've become less interested in buying new games and investing in future console generations. In the case of Fallout, I'm content to stick with my modded Fallout 3 and NV.

Given the map size, a Fallout 76 Battle Royale wouldn't be a bad idea. They could use the Commonwealth and even resurrect New Vegas and the Capital Wastelands for other maps.

Impression from the beta:

It's all technical performance stuff until about 4.30 (guy has an i7 1080ti, could barely run it at 30fps). Other comments:

- The PC keyboard mapping is atrocious
- Little to no PC graphics customisation
- Lifeless world with little of interest to see or do.
- Quests often follow "Go find X NPC" model and always end with dead NPC (because, spoiler, there are no NPCs) and a holotape.
- PvP is awful with no risk or reward.
- Combat is unchanged from F4 (ie, is pretty bad) except from VATS which is now just an aimbot.
- Buggy as strawberry float

To be fair, Photek has a point. I get that some folk may not like the look of this game or the multiplayer-focus and that they're wary of the bugs being reported... but why post so much about the perceived negative aspects of it? Sure, there are plenty of concerning views being shared - YouTube is full of them! - but there are also some more positive aspects being talked about. I don't get why anyone would want to spend quite so much time posting "bad news" about something they have no intention of playing.

I love you jawa, but I simply cannot comprehend your worldview at all. I post such things as they are extensions of how I feel towards the game, a game in a storied franchise, one of my favourites, that I feel has the potential to bottom it out. Should I not have an opinion because said opinion is not positive? What's the alternative here? Also, why not simply counter my negativity with positivity? Why come in here and tell me off for being mean without adding to the overarching conversation? I mean, take a side dude!
